Help installing AISconverter

Dear O community,

I'm new to OpenCPN and am trying to install the AISconverter tool available for OpenCPN (see https://github.com/transmitterdan/AISconverter)

Using Windows, so far I've successfully installed:
1. OpenCPN (most recent stable version)
2. Python v2.7.13 (added to the path; successfully tested)
3. have configured windows for enabling the "localhost" option (i.e.: I can see a web site when I got to "http://localhost")
4. have added a "network connection" in OpenCPN (settings are UDP protocol, localhost address, dataport 10110, checksum control, receive input on this port, and accept only sentences)
5. successfully downloaded the two AISconverter files needed for running & testing the AISconverter program (these files are "sample.txt" and "AISconverter.py")

However, when I run the specified sample command:
python AISconverter.py sample.txt localhost 10110 .1 UDP

I get the error: (<"type 'exceptions.KeyError'>, 'AISconverter.py', 303)
Usage: python AISconverter.py [OPTION]... [FILE]...
... ...
Something went wrong, exiting.

I'm confused on how to proceed... anyone has encountered this problem before?

Thanks in advance

Re: Help installing AISconverter

I believe it may be a pathname problem. I had these issues using VDRplayer.

In fact, the first problem was that Win10 Creater would no longer run python 2.7.10!! I had to upgrade to 64bit python 3.4 Windows version.

Then I worked on the command prompt syntax, starting with focus on the pathnames. Have you set a Path Environment variable for python?

At the command prompt type "path" and look for your python directory.
Once that is satisfied, you need to establish your path to the AISplayer.py and to your file.

Then work on the connection. Keep in mind that sometimes you must close O and start over to reset the TCP or UDP connection in O. Then run your command prompt command with a fresh version of Opencpn open with the Connection port open and ready.

Then execute the python command and wait for it to connect with the words use "Control-C" to close. Then you know there is a nmea data stream connected to O.

Re: Help installing AISconverter

I think this user's questions have been answered via PM.

Since AISconverter is not part of OpenCPN it may be better to send questions via the comment feature of github where AISconverter resides.
