Thanks, Leif, you're right. In this forum, Yme is yme_bosma. And he's graciously agreed to cede the domains for project use. I guess he's pretty busy, so has no time at the moment to help further (and probably doesn't monitor everything - or if so, Yme please do speak up )

I think it's fortunate that the domains were reserved early by a forum member...they might not have been.

Another little change:

The image: http://gmau.yolasite.com/resources/GribDropDown.png is 232px × 545px but it is distorted because it is being displayed at 752px × 358px.

I was playing around with size of the png. Wanted to see if it was better to take up all of the white spaces.
Changed it back to almost original.

Updated file with

yachtvalhalla discovered a workaround to get rid of the way points left on the chart when a route has been imported and then deleted.

Added info on Tracks

locations of "opencpn.ini"

Took me awhile to find the file to turn the NMEA debug....you might note that it is under documents & settings/user/application data/opencpn.

bhcva,

Thanks for your input. I see your point.
It's at c:\users\valued vaio customer\appdata\roaming\opencpn on my computer. I tried doing a search under Explorer. Didn't come up. Tried a dir c:\openc*.ini /s in a command prompt window and it came up under the above.

I think it depends on how a person sets up their computer as to where the ini file ends up.

Hopefully others will chime in on how to advise users to find opencpn.ini.

Added F4.

Added duplicate keys and description.

Alpha order of keys.

I'm thinking the function needs to be by alpha in the first column.

File move

I moved the help file to OpenCPN Help File.

The name is better than gmau!

I'm looking for any input for the help file.

I have update the help file with the Tool Box screens for Settings,GPS,Charts, Vector Charts, Ais, Fonts, Grib, and Etc. Having trouble with Grib which is on the back burner for now.

The flow of the help file is rather odd at this point. The descriptions of what you see in the program starts with the Status Bar on the bottom then goes to the Tool Bar across the top. Some topics are expanded in those descriptions. I'm looking for input of the expanded parts. Should it be included in the descriptions, linked to the bottom of the help file or linked to separate pages.

GPS- now has a window for displaying NMEA sentences. Should the “Get your GPS working” section on tracing the COMM ports be put on a separate page?

Grib and creating and using routes are another topics or sections.

There have been comments on how does one get charts.

At http://www.boatmaine.us/seaclear-tutorial2.aspx is a tutorial on getting charts from NOAA. It's written as part of SeaClear II. Do we want to add this link in our help file?

Do we want to add a section on how users can replace/update the help file on their PC?

Because of the name and link change, I'm thinking of ending this thread and starting a new thread.

Next on my list is to check the pop ups for changes and if they are in the right places.

Hello, I am going to copy the help file contents from the current location to the opencpn.org wiki for collaborative editing if you don't mind.

I have already considered extracting some of the BSB-making thread into a page on that wiki.

idpnd, I had a look to the opencpn.org home (about). Vey nice. I like the overall looking.

Just a tip: the image is jpg: very bad looking. Why not a png?

Ciao, Marco.

I assume you're talking about the background image. Mani actually did all of the site to date so you may wish to talk to him about that
