Re: Help / FAQ

cpn version 4.0.0.
CM93 charts.
Windows 7.

Full portfolio of charts - have everything south of 40N.

The other charts are there, its just that they wont display.

There is a 'trick' or 'knack' or something to get them to work - I have spoken to two people now who have heard of the problem, but don't have the solution.

Many thanks.

Re: Help / FAQ

a) activating chart outlines (in Options, or the "o" key), do the chart outlines show up?
If not most probably something is wrong with the chart set you are using.

b) consider to upgrade OCPN - 4.6.1 is the actual version

The other two people might have the same broken chart set...

Re: Help / FAQ

The charts are fine - they work on other users systems.
Trying to upload an image which demonstrates the problem.
The cursor was at approx. 40N

Re: Help / FAQ

The grey area does indicate some different issue I would suspect.

Why don't you get some NOAA vector charts for the region and have a look what happens?

Then other thoughts
- Does make OpenGL on/off any difference?
- remove your opencpn.ini file (rename it) and try again
- and attaching the opencpn log file might help as well to gain some insight

However, I can still left click on this chart's button. And I can still see some chart detail. That's because another chart covers the same area. However, once I have left clicked on a hidden chart button (with red X) I can no longer hide or show any chart using the piano buttons. Likewise, the hide chart option is no longer available in the main chart context menu. A side effect of this is that the piano buttons become rectangular (no quilting) instead of rounded (quilted). See attached screen shot. When that screen shot was taken I could get the hide/show context menu item to appear.

The fix for me was to left click on some other piano key for a chart that is not hidden. Once I do that then the piano keys revert to rounded shape and the red X reappears on the hidden chart. Then I can use the context menu to hide/unhide charts. So the workaround is to select (left click) a chart button that is not hidden.

The same thing happens whether quilting is turned on or off.
The main problem seems to be that I don't get a context menu at any time when I right click over the piano keys, whether quilting is on or off. When I right click I get the chart metadata popup and the chart highlight, but no context menu. Thus it is not possible to unhide the chart as I can't see any other way of doing it.

Workaround is to not hide it in the first place!

Do you see a red x on the hidden chart piano key?

Re: Help / FAQ

If you left click on another chart button that does not show red x then does the situation change. For me that brings back the context menu.

Help / FAQ

Jon,

Use the chart downloader built into OpenCPN. It is documented in the help file.

How to access tide data on android?

I am using version 1.0.5 and cannot figure out how to access the tide data. I see the settings that you can toggle "Show/Hide Tides" but nothing seems to happen when I do that. Do I need to install a plugin? Something else?

Thanks

I have version 1.0.12 of OpenCPN on Android. Icons for Tides and/or Currents are toggled with the settings under the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of the screen. A long touch (or touch and hold) on a tide or current icon shows the 24-hour graph.

There have been many improvements to OpenCPN for Android. You might need to upgrade at the Google Play Store.

Here is the link to the forum for the Android version of OpenCPN:
