Re: Help / FAQ

Input hi = Rx (receive) on the AP side - here goes the Tx from OCPN
Input lo = GND

When talking about lo and hi that's RS422 speak (differential lines) and as Gerhard stated there should be no problem with modern RS232 connectors.

Good luck!

Re: Help / FAQ

Hello All,

This concerns MMSI management in "Options / Boats / MMSI".

What is the effect of tick or not, the box "Persistent"?

I looked in the manuals. Maybe it is, but I have not been able to see it.

Thank by advance. Gilletarom.

Re: Help / FAQ

Persistent saves it to a file I believe, so that the next time you open OpenCPN there will be a list of potential AIS boats with details, if there is an MMSI signal for them. Thus it will be much less time to populate the full record for a boat.

I have not tried this feature, so maybe others can advise further. Hakan??

Re: Help / FAQ

Gille...., Rick
I think "persistent" works like this:
A standard track is cut to not exceed the time set in AIS target properties, like a normal AIS target. "Always" will not cut the tail after XX minutes but it will be deleted at OCPN closure.
If you in MMSI properties set a boat's track to standard or always AND persistent it will be saved "for ever" e.g. persistent over OCPN closure and reopening. When satisfied you have to delete the track in "Route & Mark manager"

Thanks Hakan. Should I check and augment the documentation accordingly?

when downloading the Google Earth plugin it says to be sure and read the instructions to avoid issues in sizing. where do i find the instructions? can't seem to find them in the OCPN manual or in the program files folder.

thanks!

Make sure to read the instructions to avoid view sizing issues.

The word "instructions is a link" to a lot of text.

However I'm having trouble with the GE PI. It seems to work until you try to exit opencpn. Opencpn hangs on exit. There is a GE process running. You have to manually kill this process to for Opencpn to exit normally or to run GE standalone. I don't know if others are having this problem.

Re: Help / FAQ

same here. when i close GE before closing OCPN, OCPN consistently crashes on close.

When GE is active, OCPN closes correctly.

also, if i try to disable GE using the Toolbar/Plugins, GE hangs.

is this the proper forum to post this in? using OCPN 4.2 and the latest GE plugin download on W7.

wdkester - thanks for pointing out that Instructions link. my old eyes didn't see a difference in the displayed text. getting old sure ain't for sissies!

: )

4,2 not replacing older version on macbook

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I have some trouble installing the 4.2 Opencpn version on my macbook. When I install, the software doesn't replace the older version - that means I have to install all maps, layers, and so on, all over again.
I have a windows laptop as well. In the windows download everything works out OK, picks up all the old data.
Is the mac version not complete?

Could you please tell me how you are trying to install OpenCPN on your Mac? There is sadly no installer of 4.2 for Mac OS X but only the Windows version comes with an installer.
Please explain step by step what you are trying to do.

With OpenCPN 4.2 the user info is moved from ~/Library/Preferences to ~/Library/Preferences/opencpn
So user info from previous versions is still in ~/Library/Preferences.

Thanks for reactions. I shifted my layers and user icons to the other map, and that works now. But I still have to change my settings by hand, although I did replace the OCPN.ini file with the older one. And I lost my 'swedish colour' plug-in - not anymore on the download page.
Well, that's life, I guess.
