You are very close now. There is a bug the the cmake script. It always requires gpsd now, and this is not correct. I will fix it shortly, and your compile can proceed. Please stand by....

Hi All,

My GPS is a Garmin 126 which interface is set to NMEA 2.0 (should be a standard).
I use it in Opencpn with /dev/ttyUSBx as well with LIBGPS Network and it works fine.
But I cannot sent a route in it, I never succeed. Is there anything to do ?

Do I throw it in the garbage ...?
Should be a shame, sending routes with Gebabbel is working fine (also set with NMEA interface). Why not with Opencpn ?

More seriously, which GPS is working with all functions (upload, download, GPSD, etc.) with Opencpn ?

JP....

Garmin hardware is good value, but notoriously fussy about NMEA uploads. Each unit reacts differently in my experience.

I will look at the 126 and see what can be seen. Please stand by.

Regarding your garmin gps126 route upload:

If you can build opencpn from source, could you make this one small source change and try upload again?

in file rte.cpp, at line 152:

Code:
sentence += _T("C"); // uppercase required for GPS MLR FFX312
If you could change the upper case "C" to lower case "c", rebuild, and try route upload. Maybe it will work?

Thanks for the information in advance

Dave,

Sorry, I had no internet until now.

I have been in /home/jp/opencpn/src/nmea0183 and in the file rte.cpp I have change :
Code:
sentence += _T("C"); // uppercase required for GPS MLR FFX312
for :
Code:
sentence += _T("c"); // uppercase required for GPS MLR FFX312
Register and close. Then in a terminal :
Code:
jp@jp-laptop:~/opencpn$ make
Code:
jp@jp-laptop:~/opencpn$ sudo make install
I write all that because I am not used to and you can see if I have not done the right things.

Then I have launched Opencpn and try to send a route to the GPS, but it is the same, it seems to be good and just before the end the progress bar stops and the window closes. I have no route in the GPS.

Dave,

Sorry, I haven't seen it before, but in fact I get all the waypoints in the GPS. But there is no route.
It is like Ptizef.

Garmin hardware is, well, Garmin.....

It begins to look like most Garmin GPS receivers will not allow upload of routes in generic NMEA mode.

I think they may need "GRMN" private mode, which opencpn V2.1.0 does not support.

This is a fairly significant piece of programming, and probably won't happen for the 2.1.0 release, although I will look at it again tonight.

I agree that the function is important, since Garmin GPS's are so popular.....

It should be possible to export a route as GPX, then use gpsbabel to upload to Garmin. Does this work? I'll try a test here with my old Garmin GPX-38 handheld receiver.

"..............another forum where the mod had a unique way of getting the FAQ in order. It started as a suggestion thread for each topic and as people replied... He would add stuff to the top thread... As they noodled everything through and discussed the best way to post it... It would go into the first post of the thread."

if somebody would have the time to do it............

CM93

I just installed OpenCPN and want to install CM93 charts. The documentation says not to put them all in one folder but does not say why. What I have loaded on my hard drive is a folder named CM93, inside this are @ 40-50 sub folders, with 2-3 subfolders inside of each of those. There is no way to tell what charts are in each folder. What happens if I do install them all from/into one folder?

thanks in advance

Nuk,

The folder names of the CM93 charts encode the lat/long and level for the enclosed charts files. Thus, you need to keep the folders in the correct order. From what you write it appears that the charts are installed correctly. All you should need to do now is added the top CM93 folder to OpenCPN chart list.

I don't want to use an other login, neither change my e-mail address or password.

And they is no mean to reach anybody (webmaster with e-mail, etc.) directly on the site.

Hello JP,

the email probably ended up in your spam folder, check there first. The webmaster is manimaul, you probably best message him via cf.com.

If no luck in your spam folder, just mail webmaster(#)opencpn.org and you will reach manimaul.
