GRIB - Wave data ?

Hi,

I don't understand how/which wave (plus swell ?) data(height, direction; period) is displayed in GRIB plugin ?
One of the multiple values ? calculated ? significant height ...
Can somebody tell me what ?

Cheers.
J.

Re: GRIB - Wave data ?

It depends on how and who built the grib.

For example Did-g works on opensource XYgrib and I know there was and issue re how to represent wave height and the direction of the waves shown, with the new GFS version I believe.I do not recall the details however.

You could ask here in the new user forum.

Re: GRIB - Wave data ?

Well, I think I was not clear enough.
In a Grib file, you have various wave datas. Say wind wave, swell, primary wave, secondary wave and sometime, significant wave or combined wave data, most of them with height and direction values.
You can easily read all these values with zygrib for example.
OpenCPN display only ONE wave data with height and direction(not always).
What value(s) is/are read and/or computed by OpenCPN to fill the "wave" values in OpenCPN grib_plugin, say height and direction when applicable ?
I could not find a clear response comparing all values in Zygrib and THE data in OpenCPN.

Cheers.

Whatever it is that "Waves" gets you from saildocs I expect. Think it is just wave direction and amplitude from the WW3 model. Haven't looked into it though.
