GRIB Version 1 + 2

Hi,

I have some questions about GRIB (before posting another feature request on SF ).

It seems thatOCPN only interprets GRIB1 so far. Is that right?
If so, I would like to request support for GRIB2.

And as many sailers outside the US aren't that happy to be supplied with such high-quality data, it is really important to use any (legally) available source.

One of the most interesting ones is the German BSH (BSH Startseite)
They are also offering currents information as GRIB files (ftp://ftp.bsh.de/Stroemungsvorhersagen/), but I could not manage to view/ show them in OCPN (neither GRIB1, nor GRIB2 format).

Can anybody with a deeper knowledge than me have a look, please?

There are information about changing format from GRIB2 to GRIB1. Maybe this of certain interest, too?

In my opinion this has a very high priority because it is one of the really rare sources with a large coverage for Europe and could help making more and more skippers using OCPN. And (at least a basic ) GRIB support is already implemented in OCPN.

Thanks!
Gunther

The files are greyed out, don't work for me either. I assume it's due to separate encoding for currents (as opposed to wind speed, temperature, etc).

Maybe Degrib: How to Install may help?
Or at least Degrib: Tutorial (only from the command line)?

I'm just posting possibly helpful links to some resources I found.

I found a free GRIB viewer which is capable to display the currents files from the BSH (GRIB2 files too): Free Viewer | Tidetech

But it would be still preferable to have it all together in OCPN.
