GPSD-NG for more than AIS/GPS?

I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any projects other than GPSD-NG which use a JSON representation of marine data as an alternative to NMEA formats? Am I right in thinking that GPSD-NG currently only deals with AIS and GPS information or is there more recent documentation someone can point me at?
