GPS integrating with Open CPN

I have recently started learning to use Open CPN and in the process bought a Leadtek USB GPS, Model LR9450 to provide the GPS input to the software.

There's just one problem! The GPS seems to be working fine, displaying the satellites it has latched onto etc, but for some reason I cannot get it to talk to Open CPN. Yesterday it wouldn't connect and wouldn't connect, and then suddenly, it connected and displayed my location with great accuracy, and I thought we'd cracked it.

But after I shut my laptop down there and restarted it back home (another location), absolutely no dice. The GPS has connected to the satellites 100%, but no ways will it talk to Open CPN! I have checked and rechecked the connections settings in Open CPN to no avail - my 'boat' stays obstinately greyed out where I was yesterday!

Someone please HELP!

Your OS? OpenCPN version? Your exact connection settings? When you look at the NMEA debug window with the GPS connected, what do you see? Anything relevant in the log?

Shut down that application that is telling you the gps is working. Then Opencpn can use the gps.

Thank you Nohal and Happy Seagull - I'm a happy Noahman! The moment I closed the GPS software as Happy Seagull suggested, Open CPN connected to the GPS!

Duuuuh!! Never thought of that! I knew it was something really simple, but this is crazy...
