GPS Contact problem

I am a new user, have installed OpeNCPN and connected to a "BU-353" GPS "puck".
In the NMEA Debug Window, I can see messages floating.
But...
The boat will not appear when I try to Auto Follow and the GPS-indicator in the upper right corner is red. I have my actual position on the screen.
Can anybody help me to solve this problem ?

Re: GPS Contact problem

What operating system, if Windows, witch version ?
What are the coors of the messages in the debug window ? Green messages = Accepted.
The symbol in upper right corner should be green if you have a GPS fix.

And it can take several minutes for a first fix. You will have data in the debug window then as well. Would be interesting to see those.

Re: GPS Contact problem

I think that BU-353 puck have a problem working with windows 10. it seems that w10 does nor recognise driver/puck or something.

Re: GPS Contact problem

Thank you for your answers.
I am running NT on a small ASUS to be used as back-up in my boat.
Now it seems that the problem is solved, I moved the "puck" more outside and probably that made the messages complete. That is my explanation.
The rare thing was that the "NMEA Debug Widow" delivered messages that I believed was OK. Perhaps this could be mentioned in the manual?

Re: GPS Contact problem

If you like you can edit the manual yourself. It's a WiKi.

For a fix a GPS needs at least 4 satellites (three for position X/Y/Z and one for time).
If you look at the messages at start-up of the GPS you will see that the number of sats will go up. For a cold start after a longer period or when you have moved your GPS over several hundred kilometers it will take longer to get the sats.

Re: GPS Contact problem

For windows 10 with bu-343 puck, the newer version bu-343 s4 works with windows 10. There is a work around where you disable loading new usb and delete the new driver that was loaded, then manually install the bu-343 driver and then reboot and re-enable the usb loading. You will have to do a google search for the exact procedure. I purchased a new puck
