Going across the '' Pond'' and need maps... Europe

We are using Open CPN as our redundant system (Primary is on a C-120W Raymarine - Navionics Maps).
We would like to use OPEN CPN on our lap-top as a redundant system and are wondering if anyone has suggestions on the best maps available for Europe???
We intend to go -Bermuda, Azores, Portugal, Gibraltar, Spain, France, Italy, Corsica, Greece, Marocco, Canary Islands over a 2 year stay...
Cost is a concern as to equip the Raymarine unit will cost alreaDY OVER 600-700$ USD.

Biased, but have a look at the raster charts from VisitMyHarbour.com.
VMH now cover the French side of the English Channel. The charts cover Spain, Portugal, France (Channel), UK/Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands.

The charts are based on up-to-date UKHO and SHOM data.

Not ventured into the med, but Atlantic Europe I've found cm93 plus paper to be ample. The cruising association almanac has very good chartlets of anywhere you are likely to go.

Also, navionics Web site is good for checking cm93 against up to date charts. ( not maps )

If you prefer vector charts you can go for S-63 vector charts.
Here you can license for 3 months periods and perhaps focus on places you are interested in.
Not the way to get a complete allround coverage. Well, almost complete yes, and as up-to-date as one can get being the offical charts, but then a bit expensive perhaps.

Re: Going across the '' Pond'' and need maps... Europe

I have Navionics on iPad as my backup.
I paid about 40 EUR for Europe, covering all Med. except African coast and most of Europe. I think they changed the regions now.
Same charts, but much less money then on a chart plotter.
It does not have to be iPad, you can use Android tablet as well.
