Getting gps to register in openCPN

Hey all-tried to search for this and didnt find anytning but aim sure its been covered. If anyone has any suggestions Id appreciate it.



I read the users manual and installed up to date drivers for the gps. Gps is reading on the gps utility.



When I go to OpenCPN and wrench and connections. Add a connection. Select the dev/usb and it never seems to read the gps. Ship location never changes and icon in the status bar stays red.



What am I missing? Is there something else I have to check or uncheck?



In the manual it says open settings(wrench) and go to gps. But I see no gps option. Only "connections"



Any advice and help would be much appreciated. Tia

I assume you are using Linux since you are looking for /dev/usb ?

• Operating system and version
• How did you install Opencpn ?
• Witch version of opencpn ?
• What type / brand of GPS ?

For Ubuntu and most other Linux system, the easiest way is to use GPSD connection.

Macbook pro

Os 10.11.4

Open cpn version 4.2.0

Gps is BU-353S4


I think I got it working on reboot.

Omg I feel like an idiot.

More incredibly simple questions to follow.....hopefully with an accurate description
