GE-overlays and KAP-files

I have a number of JPG-files that I have calibrated in GE (images of all harbours in Denmark). The KML-file from this process then looks like this, with each <GroundOverlay> specifying one calibrated JPG-image.

<GroundOverlay>
<name>Bornholm, Årsdale</name>
<color>5cffffff</color>

<west>15.14241666666667</west>

</LatLonBox>
</GroundOverlay>
<GroundOverlay>

</LatLonBox>
</GroundOverlay>

<east>14.9066992253018</east>
<west>14.90229911864634</west>
</LatLonBox>
</GroundOverlay>
...etc..

Would there be some program out there being able to produce KAP-files from KML and the JPG-image file?

I tried with GE2KAP, but GE2KAP seems to convert the actual GE-screen-image to KAP, not the actual JPG-image as per the KML-file. I can adjust the displayed chart region with GE, but it's only apporximate, so frequently I make charts with a border from GE-satellite images.

What I wanted was of course a calibrated KAP-file with the original JPG-image as borders.

Have I overlooked something??

Re: GE-overlays and KAP-files

"imgkap" by MDJ...it's a command line tool but very simple. It's all you need.just put a copy in with your images and kmls and start up a cmd line in the folder, type imgkap and it'll show you it's help file.

it's best if you cherry-pick or search for specifics through THIS thread...

Dacust has imgkap here for download.
imgkap - Download

myself, I only used the kml function once or twice but I don't recall any problems.
Or,if you experience problems,and your images from GE are rectangular, you could just copy the diagonal corner positions you seem to have in your example and use them in a command line.

I have recently purchased (12euro) the MAPC2MAPC program which does this and other conversions quickly and easily.

Link to the program cando

You can try before you buy.

Thanks a lot for your help and assistance :-)

I ended up buying the MAPC2MAPC-program as well. Hours of tedious work was replaced by far fewer hours of tedious work. I ended up having all 69 official danish charts converted to Oruxmaps (directly included in MAPC22MAPC) and to BSB. For size reasons though, I had to use OruxMapsDesktop to convert from BSB to Oruxmaps.

My project of making BSB-charts of all danish harbour-plans (approx 400) is on-going. It took approx 5-6 hours making the first 150. Still 250 to go...to integrate in Opencpn and Oruxmaps.

I calibrate the harbour plans by overlaying the chart in GE, saving as KMZ-file and then converting to BSB and finally to Oruxmaps. GE with the chart as a transparent overlay is a very convenient, visual, method of calibrating charts, - in stead of having to manually enter coordinates.
