Re: Garmin xHD Radar Overlay

At this time I am in Portugal headed for the Canary Islands and not quite in the mode to do any work on the plugin. To much sailing an not enough spare time.
When we settle down in the Canaries we will probably stay there for a year and I suspect i will have ample time to dig into the code again. The time frame would be after Christmas.
In the meantime I would be happy if people would try the beta.
It looks like Radar101 has run the plugin with good results.

The Navico Radar plugin (3G or 4G) is working very well.

There will soon be another release with more features added.

I have been using it with a 4Gscanner on my boat.

Cheers,
JM.

Re: Garmin xHD Radar Overlay

I found a xHD at a bankruptcy sale today. Could this be just an empty shell for demo/exhibition?
There is no serial number..

I am really interested to by this but feel it is a bit risky. Anyone know if this is a shell or for real? It feels very light...

Re: Garmin xHD Radar Overlay

You should weigh it. If it is less than a half kilogram it is probably empty.

Re: Garmin xHD Radar Overlay

At last I have been able to get the gxradar plugin working on my new fit-PC4 computer.
I will come back and describe what was the reason I did not get data through from the ethernet interface into the plugin.

I have made an install package that works with OpenCPN 4.2.0.
I screen dump of the harbor here at Porto Santo is attached.
The is a problem with the plugin. It can crash. This might have to do with overload of the computer. Will investigate this later.

Re: Garmin xHD Radar Overlay

I have experienced difficulty getting the data from the radar scanner to reach the plugin. To get this the data into the plugin I did the following.

I have 3 interfaces
1) Radar scanner
2) Copper internet
3) WiFi

Go to Control panel -> Network and Internet -> View network and sharing center.
On the left side chose change network settings.
You will see your network cards.
Right click om the network to the radar scanner and chose Properties.
Highlight Internet Protocol 4 and chose Properties.
Click on Advanced at the bottom right.
Unclick Automatic metric and give it a value of 2.
Then do the same with the next interface but give it a value of 3 and so on for the remaining interfaces.
The radar interface should be given the lowest number.

Then, in the "change network settings window" press ALT key.
This will reveal an extra menu with one button named Advanced.
click on that and chose Advanced settings.

Now highlight the interface to the radar scanner and move it to the top.
That will be all. Now the Radar interface should have the highest priority and the multacasting should work.

Re: Garmin xHD Radar Overlay

I have now updated the code on github after fixing some issues and I think it works as one would expect.
No more crashes.
Hopefully soon it can be added to the plugins download area if it is found to pass the test that the gurus will undertake.
I think they are under heavy load fixing bugs at the moment.

Re: Garmin xHD Radar Overlay

At last, after 1 1/2 years of work the plugin for the Garmin xHD series of radars is now published under Downloads ->Downloads for OpenCPN 4.2.0 .

I must admit I have not worked with dedication all this time.
During this period we were fitting out our boat for full time cruising which also has taken lots of time. We are now on the island of Porto Santo, next to Madeira and are planing for an Atlantic crossing in the beginning of next year.

Thanks to all of you who has given input and encouragement during this long period. A special thank to Pavel who always answers any question almost instantly. One wonders if he ever sleeps.

Hope some of you will have use of the plugin.

I have some ideas for improvements but lets first see if the functionality is acceptable as it is.
