Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

BTW Here I can see some early Win 8 tablets - not a single one less than twice the price of its Android counterpart. Way to go, Microsoft.

I had no luck with my Lenovo. It did not work properly and I returned it to the supplier.

In doubt what to buy now.

Look at the state of the box my Galaxy 10.1 arrived in by Sedex.
No wonder I had problems..

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

I have returned the Galaxy 10.1v Tab for replacement within their 7 day return guarantee.

I am a little in doubt as to wheter the official Samsung release upgrade of Android v. 4.0.4 comes within the text of the guarantee?

I have a lot of apps on my Galaxy SII I also want to use on the Tab,so I suppose I HAVE to upgrade from the v 3.2.0?

Not so worried about the limited storage space as I have tons of space on various cloud servers where I will keep all heavy data and videos. PocketCloud Explorer is great for this purpose and comes with 10GB free cloud space. All my videos plays DIRECT from their cloud, rather than having to download the entire file before playing, which is the case with my Google drive and 4STORE space.

The standard PocketCloud allows you to run ANY program on your laptop or desktop, and I look forward to run OpenCPN on a larger screen. I can already run it on my Galaxy SII smartphone but the screen is to small to work on.

Galaxy 10.1v has an 8 megapixel front camera but does not have 3G,but I believe it has GSM so that will be adequate for checking mail when I am away from internet connection.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

Still awaiting the return of my Galaxy 10.1v from the suppliers.

In the meantime,I have made two important discoveries:

1. After upgrading to ICS,I will use my Galaxy SII phone with 3G to connect
with my Galaxy 10.1v via bluetooth when I do not have Wi-Fi internet connection.
I think I read somewhere that this is possible?

2. I will also install PocketCloud Explorer on my Tab which has 10GB cloud storage.
It may also be possible to use a USB adapter on my Tab with a 32MB pendrive.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

I use a Le Pan2 for my navigation computer; selected for its 4:3 format display. I set it up this year. I have an upper helm that has a bimini top for shade but it is still quite bright up there. I made a cardboard hood for the device to test things out and it did the trick. I will make a better one before next season.

I like this idea because it is an all-in-one solution that works off of 12VDC and is flexible enough to be a cruising coffee shop email or Internet device too.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

I underestimated the use of a tablet. When I got my money back from the supplier of the Lenovo I bought an e-reader so I can get rid of a lot of excess weight (some 200 kgs books).
It took me not much time to get used to it and now I wonder why I was so stubborn not to buy one earlier.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

MegaMamut,my internet shop provider in Brazil has just informed me they have upgraded my Galaxy 10.1v Tab to the latest ICS.

I have also installed the latest TeamViewer software which lets me control my PC from my Tab,so Now I will have FULL OpenCPN access as well as whatever other software I have on my PC or Laptop,as well as the qtVlm route optimizer.

Be careful! Most (or all?) Nexi have NO microSD slot.

Navionics has a good navigation app for Android and their charts are up to date and cheap, I needed SE-Asia, got Africa, SE-Asia and Australia for 33€. But it requests a microSD for the storage off all charts. You can download the area needed them anytime on the go, for navigation NO internet access is needed, all done offline!

It will not control your autopilot though. But first apps to bring NMEA to Android via WLAN exist already, so this is only a matter of time (hello Mr. MXmariner ;-)

CM93V2 is nice, but when you need details, it fails often, not funny to sail in gray waters.

Teamviewer may be used offline (without Internet access) but with boats WLAN only? Or does it need permanent Internet acces as I understood it?

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

blubaju..

TeamViewer presently need internet access, but I have requested that they add a
bluetooth option and I understand they are looking into the possibilities.

You can use PocketCloud for local contact via WLAN,a pendrive USB router will do.

Re: GALAXY 10.1 TABLET & NAVIGATION

blubaju...

Please note, with TemViewer you can now set up a LAN connection without internet.
That means you can access OpenCPN and other progs. from your Tablet in the cockpit whilst keeping your laptop safely down below. A pendrive USB router will do.

You can download the latest TeamViewer v.8 beta here:
