Fuzzy Depths

Hi all, I have a few computers with OpenCPN installed on. One of them there is an odd thing with the depth soundings. They are a bit hard to read and fuzzy. Anyone have any ideas? The computer is a Windows 10 Home laptop running an AMD processor.

Is it fuzzy with other programs? Just Depths fuzzy? Other areas of Opencpn, like text are ok?


Jon you probably checked it already, but under Windows> Setttings > Display
is it set to recommended resolution?

Is Opencpn the same resolution in the ini file?

Are the display drivers current? I've virtually forgotten that but recently udated all the drivers on my SurfPro3, and probably should do it on the Dell laptop too.

If it is Intel HD Graphics you can right click in the screen and select Display Settings or Graphics Properties.

Hi Rick, the depths for OpenCPN are the only thing that is blurry. The rest of OpenCPN is fine (as is all other programs I use). I have not been able to see any settings for the depths. Since this is an AMD I have the Radeon R5 graphics. This might have something to do with it as the other computers are all Intel.

Now this is an interesting idea, if I understood you correctly.
Under Options > User Interface under Fonts "AIS Target Name" Dropdown List

There is nothing for "Depths" I wonder if there could be? Of course it would not apply to Raster Charts, but that might be a way for you to improve it.

bdbcat thought we need a coherent plan for increased pixel density for denser screens, possibly for next release.

Are you using Accel Graphics Opengl or not?
What graphics board?
What level of compatibility with opengl? There is a website you can test it with I think the program is glview
Graphics Drivers updates?
Also would MS Cleartype affect it?

Where are the depths in your screenshot?


I agree the soundings are not always high enough contrast. Just scaling them up doesn't always help. In some cases it could draw a black box, then the sounding in white, might look ugly but at least it would be readable.
