FT-8800 as AIS Receiver

Dear list,

I would like to use my Yaesu FT-8800 as AIS receiver, such as the -857 mentioned on the OpenCPN's hardware page.

Can anybody suggest me a functional scheme I can use to build a cable connecting the radio to the laptop's sound card (Mic input)?

In the past, I already tried both radio's audio-output and 's 9600bps digital-data without success. The cable was built with 2 isolation transformers (1:1) and a regulation trimmer.
For the software demodulation, AISMon was used.

Thanks.

Re: FT-8800 as AIS Receiver

I don't know if your transceiver has an output built in.
But you can modify it to do so, it involves soldering in your equipment.
Your transceiver uses a TA31136 chip, which has the desired signal at its pin 9.
It's part number on the board is Q1044.
I got this from the service manual, and from the well known site Discriminator uitgang (you can find a lot of VHF's data over there).
That site is in the Dutch language.
