finding Charts

I downloaded OpenCPN, but cant figure out how to load charts. I called navionics to see if they are compatible and they said no. So all I see is a base map. Even if I did have the charts I do see a button that says upload charts? Does anyone know how to do this? We leave for our trip tomorrow and today I find out Navoinics will not work on my laptop like they said it would. So I need to get something working today!

Thanks

Re: finding Charts

it appears I can only look at one chart at a time, is that correct? When I click on a section I clink show max detail and I can see that section, but my route goes through the next section.

Re: finding Charts

Why.....
Not at all. OCPN is the real program for chart quilting.
I suggest you look here: https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...t_installation
But read it all to learn all fantastic features.

Re: finding Charts

Where are you based / sailing ?

Open CPN has a built in plugin for down loading free charts, but I think you have to enable it. (And it is only really great for US / Brazil and a couple of others).

Options => Plugins => Chart Downloader 1.2 => Enable

Then when you click on the "Charts" function you will find a new tab for chart-downloader.

Options => Charts => Chart Downloader

Click "add" and select the free charts you want to download then update. It will appear in the box below (I think). Then click "download selected chart" and finally "apply".

The charts will magically appear on your world map.

Re: finding Charts

the outline of the charts are there, but I have to click on each one and select show max here. When I do that, it turns off the other part of the map I was looking at?

I am plotting a course from Fort Pierce fl to Carolina Beach NC

Same website but I click on the ENC and takes me to here

Chart Locator

That is where I am getting them from, then unzip them in my charts folder.

Re: finding Charts

And if you take that time to read the manual? A wealth of explanations and options. You have it "onboard": F1 or the "?" button. The chart chapter.

Re: finding Charts

it looks like the quilting function is not working even though it is checked in settings and I press F9 and/or "Q"

ok evidently you have to hit F9 16 times and reboot your PC! works great now!
