Feature Requests, Display Loran TD's

Great software, I've been running it in along with a commercial package.

But, I'm having trouble getting my head around the lat/lon thing. Fishing in the NE USA, we use Loran TD's. It's a hard habit to break after 40 years of "fishing the edge of the ledge around the 13520".

It would be nice if the loran display feature could be added. We likely will use them until the MFG's stop offering the option in the equipment they sell!

Thanks
Steve

Re: Feature Requests

Thanks Pavel, It really is pretty impressive what everyone has done! In the plugins you see the workings of some greater wishlist items as well as some more mature plugins. The part I was interested in working on related to the Routes and Waypoints, Measure and developing a better range and bearing tool and object. I guess I should learn to walk first with the new language C++ for me.

Feature request from the Norwegian OCPN community

* The ability to display ARPA targets from NMEA (Talker RA).
* The ability to overlay radar echo from Furuno NavNet radar (Data from NavNet network)(Might be better suited as a plugin?).

Feature Request

Show hot-key in text for "mouse-over" for each button. I sometimes need to be reminded.... like
F2 = toggle auto-follow
F3 = toggle vector-chart-text on/off
etc

Would be great, and I would code it instantly if wxWidgets had support for it, but it doesn't

I suppose you just meant, changing the existing roll-over text, to something like this?

Ah... My bad, I was thinking about menu items, not toolbar buttons.
Menu items have a right justified text field for hot-keys in most OS style guides. Which wxwidgets doesn't have.

What would be the best format for showing the hot-keys?

F2 -> Auto Follow
Auto Follow (F2)
Auto Follow [F2]
...something else?

Re: Feature Requests

Returning the focus to the chart after selecting it with a piano button would allow immediate use of the pan and zoom hot-keys without requiring a mouse click on the chart.

Picky, I know, but it smooths the operation.

Re: Feature Requests

Per Chuck's above...I think I only have one button on the toolbar where focus is not returned... it's the Route Pencil and also, the bottom chartbar...clicking a chart there also loses the window's focus but hotkey F2 (autofollow) re-focusses
(using XP)

hotkeys work betterto change charts than clicking on them in this regard

Yeah! That's what I meant, should have added a little picture....

I would prefer it the other way around: "Auto Follow = F2"

The hot-key lables will be in next beta. Not all buttons have hot-keys, though. And not all hot-keys have buttons

Yep, some inconsistencies....

One button I would like, towards touchscreen (or mouse/pointer only), is F11 = full screen. And to get out of it again. Could be like the printing icon: Let the user select to show it.

Thanks again!

It seems to me there are more users wanting less buttons in the toolbar than those wanting more, so I'm not sure about that one. F11 is pretty standard across platforms too.

Very true, I too would like to remove certain buttons at certain times. => user should decide which buttons to show.

Here is my problem with F11: It works when you have a keyboard (I do at the Navstation). But it doesn't work when using only a mouse, or with a touchscreen: Out in the weather (=cockpit), I use a waterproof monitor, plus a waterproof mouse, no keyboard. With the mouse, I can use a virtual keyboard to click on the F11 on the virtual keyboard, this enables "full screen" mode for opencpn. But I can never get back out of this full screen mode, since the full screen mode be on top of everything, including virtual keyboard. People with touchscreens might run into the same issue.

Unfortunately there is no features in wxWidgets for a user configurable toolbar, and creating support for this is a lot of work.

However, in the next release (and the current beta), you are able to use my UI Style features to hide certain icons in a style. So given that you don't need to modify it too often you can now do this. (See http://opencpn.org/ocpn/ui-styles)
