in english: just these were the information i was looking for - but didnt find. So i dont have to try further, what a pitty, as im very pleased with openCPN.
Ive searched on google - does the NMEA sentences DSC and DSE contain the position of the ship in distress or is TLL necessary as well?
The rest was dedicated to bcn ;-)

Re: Feature Requests

Christian...
There's a patch implementing DSC and DSE sentences, which didn't make it to the main code base, at http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ddy-47437.html / FS#331 : display GPSGate Buddies and DSC Positions
It certainly needs a bit of work to get rid of the dust that landed on it since then. Will do it in exchange for a fine piece of recorded NMEA stream with these sentences (or, even better, some documentation that has more info than that they exist)...

Re: Feature Requests

Hi Pavel,

this morning googled a bit about the request (found #331 as well ).

The information about DSC, DSE, (+ DSI, DSR = DSC transponder Init./Response) is sparse.

DSC Position Request - Page 4 - The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum

OT NMEA sentences

In the common papers about NMEA0183 the sentences are not documented:
http://gpsd.berlios.de/NMEA.txt
It covers just up to NMEA V.2.8 and the DSC stuff is from V3.01

In this context:
Anybody who tried to integrate NMEA2000 support?

Re: Feature Requests

Hubert...
thanks for the links, better than nothing, although not exactly documentation It looks like there's more happening on the NMEA2000 front than I've thought: check out NMEA Open Source Project - Panbo Forum - especially the link to Open Skipper | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net seems VERY interesting

Just read a few lines - looks very interesting to me. Before reading this just set up some equipment in my office - GPS connected to AIS receiver feeds to openCPN AIS input. GPS also feeds two ICOM M505 radios, NMEA out of the radios is connected to a second input of the PC (GPS in). Works fine, datastream (NMEA monitor) displays DSC and DSE sentences when receiving a distress alert (yes, i can simulate even distress alerts).
Seems also i was wrong asking for TTL sentences, thea are not issued by the ICOM radios. Will test a HX851 as well.
Sorry, i did not record any but i will do tomorrow.
Seems i have to change my configuration to
NMEA out from the radios to GPS in of the AIS, AIS to AIS in of openCPN. GPS to NMEA in of the radios, GPS to GPS in of openCPN?

Will now read the rest of the treat, it looks we are on the right way.

regards, Chris

Pavel
Thanks for the tips. "Reverse Route" only reverses the order of the waypoints in the route manager; it did not change from last to first waypoint in the navigator.

"Activate Waypoint" did the trick at the dock. Need to go do a sea trial to see how it works in the "real" world.

Thanks again.

Re: Feature Requests

Just to comment, I am following this with interest. My VHF is sending the sentences as above (Standard Horizon Matrix Gx2150) Especially interesting to me is that posn report and posn req functions would be displayed in OpenCPN as are the AIS targets, possibly a different colour, but the same info box as the AIS target interrogate. I suspect that it only requires an expansion of the AIS handling, BUT be warned that due to radio manufacturer differences, we might need to handle the DSC stuff on another port, ie. in the toolbox, an option to open a dedicated DSC port at 48 and 38k baud. This is because on most radios, the DSC and AIS info are on separate wires.

You are damned right! I tried yesterday to input the signal from my DSC radios (4800bd) to my AIS blackbox to get them bundled with the AIS signal and converted to 38400bd (this is the way the box handles the 4800bd signal from the GPS).
Not a surprise: The DCS sentences are not recognized and disappear in the box!
I connected the (DSC) line directly to the PC, it worked!
Im running seaclear as a NMEA monitor cause it has 3 configurable com ports:
Sportbootschule Tauwerk 0451 6206862

In this stream you find RMC sentences from the GPS(4800bd), VDM sentences from the AIS(38400bd) and DSC sentences from the connected ICOM M505 (MMSI 21100411).

Next step will be getting openCPN to handle an additional port and the DSC DSE sentences

Regards from the baltic, Chris

I attach a test result with 2.5.1318.

NB. When copying and pasting from the CF Code extra blanks are inserted into longer lines, careful... (in the above: "S, E*63").

Hi Pjotr, this area looks damned familar to me. The positions of both vessels are interpreted perfectly. Some companies selling sticky software for hundreds of buck should react so fast! Today i got only little time to change cables (unplug AIS and plug in DSC for the moment) and install the software - no results for now.
How did u convert the DSC signal from 4.800 to 38.400bd ?
Hasseling with a lot of cables at the moment, but soldered a lot of D-sub9's totay - now its easy to change the configuration.
My only idea is to solder a simple hardware-multiplexer to bundle some inputs to one output - or does anyone know any software to do this job?
regards, Chris

Chris,

You can take a look @ Null-modem emulator (com0com) - virtual serial port driver for Windows or Eterlogic - VSPE: tool for serial ports emulation
