VMG

Hi,

Is it possible to add a VMG (Velocity made Good) display?
Currently when you are navigating with a gps signal, the status bar reports bearing and distance to the cursor. It would be real super for the sailors among us if it also showed VMG towards the cursor location. Maybe this exists already.....

Thanks

Keep up the good work.
OpenCpn is fantastic.

About the display of SOG, COG, etc... all informations which are at the bottom of the screen.
May be be it would be more readable by some of us if the background was not so dark. I have tried with a light gray.
Look at the two pictures and switch quickly from one to the other. I think it is more confortable and readable.

Hi

My suggestion would be to provide the facility to run two sets of charts ie vector and raster together with a split screen so that they can be viewed side by side. Or to have a detailed harbour view say 10,000 to 1 alongside a larger scale coastline view of say 100,000 to 1. This facility is available in other nav packages and can be very useful when passage making.

Hi dougwm10,

You have just to launch twice Opencpn with a virtual serial port emulator (gpsd for linux or VSPE for Windows), you put the two windows beside and it is done.

so you could easily find a place like "Byxelkrok", its somewhere in cm93.

see: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f9/newbee-from-luxembourg-40193.html#post472018

I also searched quite long for a place "Leba" in Poland, its not so small like Byxelkrok but not easy to find in cm93.

MAPMEDIA CHARTS

Hi you all

Those of you who have looked at the cnfseasoft website will have noticed that there is a world wide collection of mapmedia raster charts all of which can be accessed and displayed from within Maxsea ver 10.

Is it possible to program opencpn to be able to open and display these mapmedia charts ???????????? as an alternative and / or in support of the cm93 ver 2 charts.

It would be extremely useful to have the benefit of both vector and raster charts available for display and to use.

Regards ............ Doug

The cm93 ver2 charts can be displayed in OpenCPN without problem
You should try it!

Good luck

Mapmedia's various chart formats are not supported, for the same reasons as for the other proprietary charts.

OCPN and widescreens

Hi all

As allmost all new pc´s and monitors seem to be wideformat, isnt it time to think about an option to have alle the toolbars, chartbars, data boxes etc. placed on one or both sides of the main chart picture?

I'm using a widescreen laptop, but I hadn't thought of that. Doh! Having the toolbar on the right-hand side of the screen would make a lot of sense It would enable the Look Ahead Mode to look, umm, further ahead

I see that a smaller own ship icon is a fairly common request. Has that been implemented, or am I simply not seeing how to do that?

Dave..
Could you please consider adding a feature to the AIS Target List, allowing the user to select the area of AIS targets to be displayed in the list? Default could be ALL ,with an option to display ONLY targets within the chart area on display,or within a set radius if that is more convenient.

The reason being that in very busy areas, the target list can not cope with the extreme number of targets. Check out WebVTS Lite from Siitech which has some 12.000 vessels but only displays targets within the chart window.

I would also strongly suggest that the on/off button of the AIS display is by default set to ON and otherwise forced back to the ON position after a set period, following a selection to OFF, for security reasons. It is easy to forget to re-set to ON after a switch off period.
