Re: Feature Requests

First, thanks for an excellent application and all the work you guys put into it.
I primarily use open cpn for planning and then transfer routes after conversion (Babel GPS) to a Raymarine plotter.
The feature I would like is a possibility to name all the waypoints in the route in one go.
As for now is I have to name the waypoints one after one. If I have a route named for instance "sthlm" I would like to have the waypoints in that route named sthlm1,sthlm2,etc.
Possible?

All the best from Stockholm and its surrounding archipelago of 50.000 islands.

Re: Feature Requests

sh01tsdn, it is possible, and quite easy but you will need to edit the "Exported route" gpx-type file in a competent text editor and then reload it in O when you're done.

A "competent text editor " would be Notepad++ as just one of several. These have search and "replace" functions so you could simply replace or insert your new name while retaining the original numbers.

Re: Feature Requests

Thanks Seagull,

1. What to search for and replace? If the waypoints where named WPT001,WPT002 etc it will work. But it would also change the type:

<rtept lat="58.686400354" lon="17.183165623">
<time>2011-12-16T05:51:08Z</time>
<name>002</name>
<sym>diamond</sym>
<type>WPT</type>
<extensions>
<opencpn:guid>4139ffff-cf23-4f44-b80e-7610406bffff</opencpn:guid>
<opencpn:viz>1</opencpn:viz>
<opencpn:viz_name>0</opencpn:viz_name>
<opencpn:auto_name>1</opencpn:auto_name>

I am sure I misunderstod you. Did you mean that I should change type WPT to the preffered routename?

2. Regardless I couldn´t reload the GPX file. Even if no change/manipulation was done. I am running 3.1.1105

Best regards

In your case I would search for all instances of "<name>" and replace them with "<name>Sthlm ". Once that's done and saved, just import the saved gpx file.

Re: Feature Requests

Thanks Thomas,

Yes of course it works. The routename will be doubled, but that´s no problem.

Re: Feature Requests

Now many manufacturers ECDIS / ECS software began to change its user interface with light to dark. The dark color gives the aesthetics and reliability. Maybe we should make a choice of light and dark user interfaces.

Painted as it might be in OpenCPN

Re: Feature Requests

Baikal....that is an interesting display. How were the guage sets generated in the first place. Are these available for linux as a plugin or is this limited to windows only again. I would hate to have to convert to windows due to the lack of stability just to get a guage set like that. I guess the workaround is to run XP in Linux under emulation if it comes to that.

Re: Feature Requests

Baikal...never mind. Found it all. Its been a while since I even looked at the pluggins. They have matured nicely. Apologies for the waste of bandwidth..

this is my suggestion to developers.
I painted in photoshop my idea how to see.
I hope that the developers will consider this proposal OpenCPN

Re: Feature Requests

Most of this can be done in chartsymbols.xml
But I'm not sure if any color is shared between the interface and some chart symbols... test and report ;-)
You'll not be able to change window borders this way thought. The only way to change this is with Windows settings

Re: Feature Requests

Language error handling.
A request was made by Jamie on s/v Totem for a fix regarding language error handling. He installed OpenCPN on a laptop and it failed to open. Turned out that the failure was that the laptop was set to "English - Singapore". A couple of days, a few posts to the forums and a number of Sailmails back and forth got it running just fine.
It would be nice if rather than just failing to run, it would give a simple alert stating that there is a language error and to set the machine to a compatible language.
See thread on the worlds first dugout canoe with a computer chartplotter

Thanks,

Tim Clauson

COG predictor in small chart scales

If zoomed out to a scale that is smaller than 1:300.000 the ship’s icons changes to ring AND THE COG PREDICTOR DISAPPEARS.

Please make this to an option. The other would be to keep the icon and just scale the predictor, as in the bigger chart scales.

Using a COG predictor length of 60 min for own yacht and for all AIS targets it would give a much better overview.

Endless Voyage....

You can change the predictor lengths in Options dialog.

Re: Feature Requests

I tried predictor length 14400 minutes (10 days) and it seems to work!... except it's not a great circle. Bummer.

added: zoom in,zoom out to refresh really long predictions!
