Re: Feature Requests
Isolate a chart?
Something similar to the right click context menu for removing a chart from the quilt except that it makes the chart the only one visible.
This would be very handy.

I am fine with using external solutions, especially since VSPE is free.
But then Opencpn should be able to read the TCPIP output from VSPE (or GPSGate, or NavMonPc). Then one could avoid creating a virtual serial port for opencpn NMEA input.
Virtual serial ports tend to be a bit messy, especially on machines with drivers for cellphone modems, which also create virtual serial ports.

Yes! Or a button/Function key to toggle quilting. I often need to disable the quilting to find navigational notes on the chart, then re-enable quilting after reading the note.
The right-click "Isolate" chart would serve the same purpose!

Re: Feature Requests
Jim & Dirk
F9 is fine, I use it all the time, but...
Look at this feature request.
OpenCPN::Tracker All Projects: Tasklist
Sometimes, on charts with wide margins and a lot of info, it's impossible to read even in single chart mode.
Thomas
PS. I imagine that this technically could be done, by temporarily adjusting the PLY line to the edge of the picture.

oops, rtfm I guess, Thanks! But how would I have known without reading the manual? Maybe put "(F9)" behind "enable quilting" in the settings?

Or allow the user to "lock" to a chart via the chart bar, so opencpn doesn't switch to the next chart while panning.

Re: Feature Requests
The thing about F9 is that when you get close to another chart, the other chart becomes the current one and steals the limelight. Or maybe I am not using it right.

That would be a nice way to do it.

Re: Feature Requests
I can see all of most charts unquilted if I remember to not let the Red "Quilt-border" cross the screen's halfway mark. But as Thomas said above, the big-blank border charts are not going to let you read those notes on the border ... I use
XnView or Thomas's own Kapview for that. These can quickly open a kap as a picture.

Think of it as Chart Groups Lite. The OpenCPN community has an large percentage of "chart workers" and something like this would be a valuable tool for proofing their work. Looking at a chart in XnView is just not the same. It could also be valuable to a navigator who wants to positively, absolutely stay on a particular chart for safety reasons.
Dirk requested something very similar a few months ago. His work around was to make a chart group with one chart and also a group with no charts.
I will shut up now

Re: Feature Requests
Could we get a hotkey to turn off the Chart Selection bar that is displayed above the Status bar.
Thanks

Re: Feature Requests
Paul..
To avoid the Chart selection bar when constructing a new map with GE2KAP
I just use F11 for full screen, followed by pressing the ´Microsoft flag´key and the
letter ´D`. This brings you back to the main MS window where you can start GE2KAP.
Result? No Chart selection bar in the finished map!

Re: Feature Requests
Tore,
That only works if you have Journeyman styles. If you have the Traditional style you will get an error saying the chart needs calibration and the resulting chart is not calibrated properly.
It is because for the Traditional style the background for Chart Slection bar is not transparent and when I position the cursor in the lower right and lower left it reads the wrong lat/lon. It would probably work if the background in the Traditional style was transparent for the Chart Slection bar.

Re: Feature Requests
Paul..
OK,understand... just wanted to let you know how I managed to do it without problems.
I hope the next OCPN version will also overcome the OCR problem with unreadable characters and the color alteration in the finished chart as I shall otherwise have to
keep using v. 3.0.2

Re: Feature Requests
Tore....
First I've heard of this....
Code:
I hope the next OCPN version will also overcome the OCR problem with unreadable characters and the color alteration in the finished chart as I shall otherwise have to
keep using v. 3.0.2
Please post more detail, in the 3.1.802 thread, if you don't mind.
Won't get fixed if we don't know about it.
Dave
