Re: Feature Requests

I haven't come across .fsh fragment shader files before, but it seems to be be an OpenGL graphics image format. How does this relate to the alphanumeric waypoint/route data exported from OpenCPN?

I have found a windoz "free" software that converts both ways, GPS Utility And I have been able to get this to work, but it is clumsy.

Re: Feature Requests

I can't remember if this had come up before or not but:

I would like to see a button on the toolbar that allows you to turn off/on user information on the chart; tracks, waypoints and routes.

This is required when you have a lot of information for an area and then zoom out which causes the view to become cluttered with irrelevant information. Most similar software has a option to turn off these item with a simple click or two.

Most commonly this is an issue where you zoom out to look at a GRIB file.

The other common case for me is where I want to have a clean chart with just my track on it so that I can take a screen shot that just shows the chart and a track. I do this either for my records (voyage reports), or blog.

I know that it is possible to turn off waypoints, routes and tracks in the route/track manager but as far as I can see no way to turn them all off. If you have a lot of tracks, routes, and waypoints this can take an age.

I know you can convert stuff to layers but that is not practical with your live data.

Re: Feature Requests

Chris, why not put that idea in the Tracker?

I could but I wanted to see if anybody else thought it useful.

I'll put it up later anyway.

Re: Feature Requests

With CM93 now almost 5 years without a update and other charts difficult to obtain and expensive could OpenCpn look for alternatives for people wanting to cruise outside free gov chart areas.

Would it be possible to build a plugin to access the reasonably priced charts available from paid Windows apps like I-Boating .

This would give everyone access to updated charts with all the benefits of the best plotting software.

Re: Feature Requests

Good morning Hubert (bcn).Good morning to everyone in this site. It's me, palolo1 again. After achieving the expected results with the "sectors" implementation in the draw PI feature, I wonder if any body can implement another one. the idea seems easy to me, but don't know if the programming part will be harder than thought.

What I'd like to be implemented in OPENCPN marks, is the posibility for any mark to move. I explain myself: If i put a mark in the screen (chart), I'd like to be able to give this mark both a course (true) and a speed (in knots), so that the mark moves with the time. Let's say it would be a synthetic ship.

Another issue that I have is the WATCHDOG feature not allowing me to activate a limit area, because the software alerts me that the GUID assigned to this limit is not recognised. Has anybody else had this problem?

Many thanks in advance for all your job.

Kind regards,

Palolo1

Re: Feature Requests

I would like to add a feature request to add the ability to overlay coloured depth shading to vector charts.

However I don't know if this would be something done by the base OCPN or a plugin?

OpenCPN can display vector charts with four shades as shown in this screen shot.

Use Options > Charts > Vector Chart Display. Set Colors to "4 Color". Set the values for Shallow Depth, Safety Depth and Deep Depth.

No not that - I mean like this; see attached screen shot from TZ

This one is quite a large area just east of Tahiti. In this case I am using it to show seamounts that don't break the surface. In TZ you can set the shading to cover a specified depth range or to shade according the depth range of the zoomed window. It is surprisingly useful.

I imagine that in OCPN it would function similar to the shading in the GRIB overlays.
