Thanks for bringing me up to speed Extemp. To keep this thread focused on it's subject, I'd like to bring up a feature request:

It would be nice to be able to leave notes on marks. Perhaps there could be a provision to leave notes on marks in the "Mark/WP Properties" dialog.

It has just occurred to me that there is no straightforward means of going to certain LAT/LONG coordinates.

E.g. looked up Cies islands on wikipedia, got lat/long coordinates, only way in opencpn would be "drop mark here", then modifying "mark properties" to lat/long, then searching for mark.

Feature request would thus be to provide a "Go to" function or similar to centre the screen at certain coordinates.

AIS Suggestion

Here is my AIS suggestion box:
  1. OpenCPN should allow AIS traffic on a UDP port. That would allow AISMon - a pretty solid program - to be used without using a COM port redirector which on Windows 64-bit machines is hard to get and never free due to the need for driver signing.
  2. The route (old positions linked with a line) of AIS targets should be displayed and erased "after a while". The Lost Targets timer could be used.
  3. AIS data should be arranged in columns (see attachement OpenCPN vs. "another" application) [This is cosmetic, no impact on functioanlity]
  4. AIS targets for which traffic has not been received should turn grey instead of yellow with a cross [This is cosmetic and subject to individual taste]

+1, mirroring the grey own boat icon upon gps signal loss. It also tends to look like a cardinal mark in yellow!

idpnd,

I think you posted a feature request for full screen mode in opencpn. Since you are a Linux+Gnome user, you can do this now.

System-->Preferences-->Keyboard Shortcuts

Add an entry in Window Management-->Toggle Fullscreen Mode

I use Shift+F11 as my shortcut

I just found this yesterday... works perfect.

Help.....

I downloaded a quickscat grib file from saildocs.com. OpenCPN can't yet display this kind of files. I sent the file to Dave who can read it but need some ideas as how to render quick-scat data. I don't have access to any grib viewer that can render this kind of grib. Anyone out there that can publish some nice screen-dumps of the attached file, or any similar qscat grib file, on a grib-viewer??

It would be great with this feature in OpenCPN.

Dave...

Would it be possible in a future version to include a drop-down menu for user entry of 'quick-jumps' to regularly used locations? Similar to attached...
It would save a lot of panning and zooming....

I don't really think that's applicable to the onboard navigation use case, it's more of an armchair ais coordinators use case really

I'd rather deem an anchor alarm important really

Sure works now, because Dave was very quick to implement suport for qscat files.

I have had many instances where, while underway to a particular destination, I found it useful to be able to pull up the chart of that locale and study it in advance, all the while letting the computer contine to run the charting program in real time. Of course methods vary, but I would suggest that this is indeed a useful capbility for OpenCPN.
