F5 color scheme - adjusting the dimmer & MOB button

The color scheme dimming is an excellent feature for nighttime use.

The only problem I have is when at the darkest setting, the entire
toolbar appears black to me. The darkening of the background of the toolbar is so great that I can't see the icons. A number of times, I've accidently set MOB markers when just trying to change to color scheme.

Is there any way for a user to adjust the colors used for the darkening?

As a safety feature, should the MOB toolbar button be in the same location at all times? On the end of the toolbar, so you can get to it without thinking or hunting.

Having it always appear in the same location will cut down on any delay during a high stress circumstance.

You should post this in the Features sticky thread. And maybe enter it into FlySpray? Sounds like a good idea to me. Almost a must.

Leave it here. It'll sink down to the bottom soon enough.

And by the way, I was not meaning you shouldn't have posted it in its own thread. Sometimes it's good to get feedback before cluttering up the Feature thread.

But in this case, I think this is an excellent suggestion and should just be added straight to the Feature Requests. Just my opinion.

The color scheme rotation by pressing F5 is still in this thread.

Does anyone know if or how it can be adjusted?

In the next beta release the MOB button will move to a new place in the ToolBar. It will always be the far right button, unless disabled. The night color scheme will also be adjusted so the MOB button will be easy to see.
All thanks to bdbcat

Using either F5 or the icon, the first press doesn't do anything for me.

Same situation for both W7U and XP.

The four key presses represents the Default level, the Daylight level, the Dawn or Dusk level and finally the Night level. There is often no difference between the default level and the Daylight level. Many NOAA charts are different though. I just checked the 11363, and the Daylight option has slightly sharper colors.
So, it all depends on how the chart is coded.
This has not changed in OpenCPN for a long time.

There are also Charts with that contains no coded color palette at all.
The official Swedish raster charts, for example. Pressing F5 makes no difference at all for these charts. The user has to use F6 for general dimming.
