Re: Europe Cartography for Open CPN?

Anyway, I have always been amazed at Jeppesen's tolerance about people using CM93 ed 2. charts. I think this is due to the fact that big money is expected from iOS/android/W8 phones or tablets, not from PC's. Apps and charts are dirt cheap on these.

I have purchased S57 charts for Seapilot, but prefer OpenCPN. Is it possible to import S57 charts to OpenCPN, and if it is possible how?

No, it's not possible for seapilot. To the best of my knowledge. And it's a shame. The format is cryptographed on the seapilot installation. I'm not sure how, but somehow. The Danish authorities have thus worked to support a single private company(seapilot) instead of worked for the safety of the sailing community.

Try to ask seapilot themselves maybe, - they are on facebook

Re: Europe Cartography for Open CPN?

Daniel,

when you are talking about S-57 charts I suppose these are charts licensed for SeaPilot from S-57 source material.

All licensors of chart material do oblige you to distribute and present their charts in a proprietary format.

Licensors are more or less expensive. The Scandinavian ones are quite expensive or better they prime scale factors, making it difficult to license their charts for small user groups or targets with few users.

OpenCPN is aware that there is a need for up-to-date and affordable chart material for European waters (and others) and we are working on it.

Stay tuned, there will be news in short terms.

I do not understand what you're looking for exactly.

What I explain below serves you?

Obviously, there are many things in the website, in English, opencpn.org.

There are several web pages, in the French shoreline tutorial, related to OpenCPN, in which all the available charts editors are listed.

See here:
http://shoreline.fr/OpenCPN.fr/__Ope....htm#Commencer

If you want S57 charts,
- or you can buy them in S57 format, probably from the hydrographic office in your country,
- or you buy S63. In this case, you must use the S63 plugin and send it to o-chart. http://www.o-charts.org/

But there are other charts that can be used with OpenCPN. They are raster charts. In particular :
- For the North Sea and the Baltic, cahrts of NV-Verlag.
- For the Baltic, you also have charts of Soltek.
- For the North Sea and the Channel and the Atlantic you have the charts of Nv-Verlag and that of VisitMyHarbour.
