ENC Charts Problem

Hi,

I assume I am missing something obvious here, but I am unable to show ENC charts downloaded by NOAA on my OpenCPN installation. I had thought initially that the NOAA ENC maps were in S63 format, but after I downloaded the OpenCPN 3.3 beta and the S63 plugin I noticed that actually the NOAA maps are S57.

So...why wouldn't they load? Raster maps work fine.

I suppose you have read Installing Charts | Official OpenCPN Homepage, unpacked them if they came compressed and added the right directory in toolbox and rebuilt the chart database and know where the charts actually should be on the globe and are at more or less a scale where they should be visible. I know, obvious stuff, just to make sure...
Can we have a look at you your logfile, please?

Thanks for taking the time Pavel! Yes, I think I covered all of these steps. I wasn't sure if I need to add the directories differently. I did unzip them and then added as ENC_ROOT. Then I tried, all the sub-directories underneath that one separately as well, still nothing. I still might be missing something obvious...

It may be helpful to turn on “Show Chart Outlines” in Display options, so that coverage boundaries are displayed (in green) — as an indication that charts are really present in the database. Alternatively, you may look into CHRTLIST.DAT (binary file in OpenCPN settings folder) to make sure it contains all those chart names; log file doesn't disclose such details.

Try options->charts->rebuild database.

Then post the logfile. You should see all the ENCs added to the database in the logfile.

Ok, I figured it out! Here is what the problem was.

I had a non Latin character in one of the directories where the charts were. Once I renamed with all Latin characters and the Vector charts loaded. The interesting thing is that Raster charts weren't affected by this at all.

Could be something that the developers can look into.
