Re: Echosounder mapping own map

I installed the plugin but it doesn't appear in the "Options" window? (See attachments)

tamar.txt can be played with the vdr plugin, to simulate an NMEA stream for recording from.

Very interested in getting this working. I don't see v1.1 in releases. Only v1.0?

I can make a trace with this but it is very unstable on W10

Get a crash if I try to edit preferences in the plugin manager

Get a crash if I click across the tabs in the plugin window: profile, trace etc..

Cheers

Re: Echosounder mapping own map

I have pulled the Windows installer. It did not work on a second pc with a 'clean' install of O 4.8.2. In the log I get 'module not found', which is why the icon is not appearing amongst the plugins. Needs some more thought.

v1.1 Windows installer has now been updated. As a workaround you need to copy proj.dll, freexl.dll and geos_c.dll to your main OpenCPN folder (the one containing opencpn.exe). Feedback welcome. 'Zoom to' should now work.

Thanks Mike. I got it installed. I experimented with the boat configuration settings and OpenCPN crashed. So I launched OpenCPN again and left the configuration settings at their default. Then I opened one of the .txt NMEA files and saved it into a new project. Let it process and then clicked on "zoom to". I didn't see anything (besides the background chart). Do I need to have a chart loaded in order for the area surveyed to appear?

Is there a more appropriate thread I should move this conversation to?

Re: Echosounder mapping own map

This thread should be fine.

Are you seeing the soundings from the NMEA file in the grid of soundings? I find I need to go to another survey or close the dialog and then go back to the survey dialog to refresh the grid and see the soundings. They are not refreshed automatically.

To see the soundings on the chart ... they will show on the outline chart but you need to zoom in a bit for them to show.

No crashes on my machines. Is anything showing in the opencpn.log file? The plugin puts a lot of information in the opencpn.ini file. You could try backing up that file and letting OpenCPN generate a new .ini. Need to enable the plugins again.

This plugin has had very little work recently and is still only in BETA.

Re: Echosounder mapping own map

I stand corrected, the survey is there, I just didn't zoom in far enough. I'll try to recreate the crash and report in a separate post.

Re: Echosounder mapping own map

Would tracks colored by soundings data be enough for a poor man’s survey?

What if
- you stored all your data in a db
- there were a reasonable way to do bounding box searches
- over http with the result as tracks in GeoJSON
- could plot that on your chart

Looks good to me - so when can I have it?

It would also be more useful if it would show the depth contours well in advance of the boat's movement.

It can already do that:

It needs some kind scale displayed so that the colours are meaningful and preferably colours could be assigned to a depth range by the user.

There also needs to be a way of minimizing the Survey dialogue window.

Teppo,

perhaps you should have shown the complete screen, especially the disclaimer on top - which is very justified.

Just thinking in the submerged stones in the Baltic, that a track will not show - but one did run on the rock (hopefully not).

The same area from Trelleborg on a raster chart - from NV in this case.

Re: Echosounder mapping own map

I will tell you how a hydrograph works with professional hydrographic software and as a C-MAP partner.

All public projects to collect depths do not work! They became extinct after the opportunity appeared to make personal depth maps in their chartplotter.
The big problem is that the incoming data have large errors due to the high level of the measurement, the chaotic lines, the lack of popping on the water level.
In most cases, the data came only from the passage of a navigable passage, no one intentionally will not squarely measure the specific territory.
In particular, those who make a detailed measurement of the territory do not want to publish data for open access. C-MAP Genesis. Navionics SonarChart. Basically it's Fishermen. Large data sets are set only by those who are sponsored by Navionics and C-MAP.

Now the plugin is completely self-contained, it is quite suitable for collecting hydrographic data. Thanks to Rasbats for the added functionality.

From the wishes, the possibility of building bathymetry in real time and in manual on the basis of the measured data. There are many examples.

If you need help in understanding what you need with joy, I will help
