Does Android opencpn work on new Amazon kindle?

I don't care about GPS. My AIS sends out perfectly good GPS over wifi which I intend to use. If anything the kindle not having its own GPS chip is a good thing since will avoid any potential incompatibilities.

Yeah, I have seen similar instructions. These people might have gotten it from PCMag: How to Sideload an App Onto a Kindle Fire HDX | PCMag.com

But the instructions are for a different kindle; the one I am asking about did not even exist when these instructions (both) were written. And, in addition, several comments say they did not work.

So, I am wondering if opencpn works for THIS kindle (which seems much better than any older one).

Well, I don't have a kindle and would buy it only for this purpose. If it does not work, it would be money down the drain.

There are tons of posts on how to get APKs or the Play Store running on Fire OS. It should be no different on this device as it runs Fire OS.

I would buy it and try it myself, but alas they won't ship it to Canada!

For a low end tablet, you might consider:

I have one. Works well. Virtually the same specs as Kindle.
Its really an Android device, so there is no question about compatibility.

IMHO, its a decent choice.
Unless, of course, you want a six-pack.

Reviews on amazon are all over the place but at that price I am willing to take a gamble. So I just ordered one. I will report back how it goes
