DNC Revisited - Hopefully

I have read the DNC threads I could find here.

For planning purposes I would like to just view DNC charts on my LINUX PC at home.

Am I crazy?

I am an experienced computer user, but it is best to asume I need answers a NOOB would be able to follow.

I am going to deliver a trawler from Louisiana to Oregon in August, and it is sad to have to go back to using Windows. The last two years I used OpenCPN on Mint Linux to run a troller during the Oregon Salmon Seasons. I would rather row with Linux than have diesel and Windows.

The DNC and ENC charts of US waters are the same data just different formats. Outside the US waters DNC charts are not made available to the general public any longer.

OpenCPN supports ENC charts of US waters on Linux.

Hi, und https:/dnc.nga.mil you seem to be able to download chart data from worldwide if I am not wrong. Just downloaded a file designated Southern Europe. Still it is in rtp format.

So, stupid me wonders if OpenCPN could eventually be made to read those files?

The rtp are patches to 'full' files. You won't find the full files for outside the US on dnc.nga.mil. Without the full files, the patch (rtp) is useless.

No, they are not available to the general public.
