Displaying the AIS Leds On the screen

I asked Paul Sumpner of Digital Yacht how I could use their recent Ais config app to display the LEDs remotely on my phone , as my AIS unit is hidden behind the dash.

This is not possible for me without extra equipement. Which made me ask him.....below is a copy of my question, and a very decent offer of help, ....

Me...
Perhaps I should ask open cpn to program in the proprietary sentences and display on the main screen.

Many thanks for your help so far

Paul
Hi David,

That is not such a bad idea and if you were to get OpenCPN interested in this, we could give them all of the information needed to use the proprietary sentences. Many customers find themselves in the same situation as you and we regularly are asked for a solution to this issue.

As far as I am aware, all AIS transponders that work with proAIS2 (Raymarine, Simrad, Emtrak, True Heading, Sitex, etc.) use the same proprietary commands and so many boaters would benefit.

Best regards
PAUL

Any body else think this feature would be useful on the bottom , or top line on the main navigation screen.

Any of the coders want to get in touch?

Paul,

We can discuss adding this feature to the dashboard. I think it is not terribly difficult.

I would shy away from adding the feature to the main program. But that's what Dashboard is for.

It was my idea to put it on the main page. Anywhere would be good !

Re: Displaying the AIS Leds On the screen

I reverse engineered the previous generation ProAIS, for older AIS transponders, way back in 2011, and there you can interrogate the AIS by sending

Code:
$DUAIQ,LED*29
and then you will receive

Code:
$PSRT,LED,a*hh
a bit 1: Power On
a bit 2: TX timeout
a bit 3: Error
a bit 4: SRM status
hh: checksum
The link to my full post containing many more commands is: Yacht Electronics: SRT proprietary AIS commands
