Depth Sounder input to Laptop/OpenCPN

All,
If there's a thread that talks about depth sounder compatibility and input to OpenCPN, can someone point me at it? What I'm wondering is if you can feed depth sounder to OpenCPN for display etc.

Thanks!
John

The dachboard plugin can display depth using a nmea 0183 depth transducer as souce for depth data- Try a search on google for " NMEA 0183 depth transducer"

Re: Depth Sounder input to Laptop/OpenCPN

There is also several hardware available to transform other data protocols like NMEA2000, Seatalk etc. to NMEA0183 via serial or WiFi which is needed to transfer data to a computer because computers understand serial and WiFi data but not the CAN protocol used by the other marine data protocols.
So if your depth transducer does not send NMEA0183 you will need such a transformer.

Does OpenCPN support NMEA 2000 yet? That seems to be the latest and greatest. Rather spend the extra now, than buy go cheaper on "yesterday"

You might read above? As said you will need a transformer.
