Dashboard Instruments.

This is my setup :
Windows XP SP3
OpenCpn 3.2.0
No GPS attached
No charts loaded
Wind speed, Wind angle and Water speed feed through NMEA 38400 to COM port 6 via DB9 to USB converter.
Sentences used are : $IIMWV, ...... for Wind speed and angle
$IIVHW, ..... for Water speed
As can be seen in here :

http://www.vindfallan.eu/display.JPG

the Debug window show Wind speed of 4-5 Knots,Wind angle is 171 degrees and Water speed is 5.5 Knots.
On the Dashbord none of the instruments shows anything but 0.
In addition to that the needle on the Speedometer is missing.
Note that all messages are dark green and are taken as accepted.

One last comment, I have built up the messages. They are converted from another format by me in an AVR microchip. Note that the interval is 2 seconds, not 1 second as the protocol says it should be. I don't expect that to be the problem.
Any comment would be appreciated.

/Hans

Re: Dashboard Instruments.

Checksum are wrong.
For example you have:

$IIMWV,171.0,R,5.3,N,A*60

But it should be:

$IIMWV,171.0,R,5.3,N,A*3C

Re: Dashboard Instruments.

BTW, 60 (decimal) is 3C (hexadecimal) checksum must be given in hex...

Re: Dashboard Instruments.

Thanks for the rapid reply!

Sure I will correct that even though I have clicked in the control setup to ignore the checksum.
If the checksum is incorrect, it shouldn't mark the string as accepted, should it?

Re: Dashboard Instruments.

I'm not sure about that, I didn't follow the new I/O stack development very closely but here's my understanding: a sentence is accepted (and shown as accepted in the debug window) if it's not filtered in the I/O stack. It doesn't mean it'll be used inside (an unknown or proprietary sentence would pass through the filtering stack but would have no effect)
The ignore checksum has only effect on OpenCPN internal handling of NMEA, the dashboard is a separate plugin and is not affected. There's no such option ATM in the dashboard plugin.

Re: Dashboard Instruments.

Ok. Now all the instruments show the correct values.

Fine so far, but the needle on the Speedometer disappears as soon as the map appears.

Look here : http://www.vindfallan.eu/display_2.JPG

The speed is 5.30 knots as can be seen on the digital display.

Re: Dashboard Instruments.

The needle will disapear if no appropriate sentence is received in the last X seconds (IIRC, that's 10 seconds)
As you can see, there's no SOG in the status bar either. Do you have any NMEA source that provides SOG? (RMC, VTG or AIVDO)

Re: Dashboard Instruments.

Ahh. The Analogue Speedometer works with SOG only. I don't provide any GPS data so that's obviously the reason.

Thanks
