crashes on win 10 now that I have gps puck

I have been using opencpn just for planning purposes. worked great.

then i got the recommended gps puck bu-353. configured it, worked great to give me real time info!

then noticed whenever i started opencpn, and i tried to do something like changing scale, panning, zooming etc. it would go into a wait loop and give me a 'not responding' message and never come out of it (or at least i would wait about 3 minutes then close the program).

I rebuilt the maps database etc. Nothing solved it. I was about to uninstall and reinstall, when i had this idea of plugging the puck back in, and voila it worked!

Now, when I am doing planning at home, I really don't want to plug in the puck, it drains battery on my laptop. But that is the only way I can run it.

Is there an option to have it not hang and use the maps without the puck turned on? thanks.

Try removing the connection from the Settings/Connections menu when you are not using the puck. It may be OpenCPN hangs because it is waiting for data on the com port.
