Question crash while importing s63 map

Hi everyone

I have a problem with loading a S63 map into openCPN (this one: https://chartworld.com/shop/search?keyword=1I01001).
I followed the tutorials until the point where it imports cell permits from the txt file. This succeeded after running for 20 hours (is that normal?).

Then I hit "Import Charts/Updates..." and chose the appropriate folder. Afterwards it runs for a few hours but then it suddenly stops. The opencpn.log shows following error line:
Code:
12:47:01 AM: Error: Can't create dialog using memory template (error 1158: der aktuelle Prozess verwendet alle Handles der zulässigen Höchstanzahl für Window Managerobjekte.)
(rough translation: "the current process uses the maximum allowed handles for windows manager objects"). I think it Sounds like there may be a memory leak in the S63 plugin.

I had to force quit the application using the task manager because the user interface became completely unresponsive.

Now, when I restart the application and hit again "Import Charts/Updates...", after a few seconds the whole application just terminates without any error message.

I tried to manually delete the content of the "C:\ProgramData\opencpn\s63\s63SENC" folder and retry the import but again it stops after a few hours with the same memory error message.

Additional info: I'm running openCPN 4.8.4 on windows 10 X64. My laptop has 8GB memory and a 2.4GHz dual core CPU.

Does anyone know a workaround or solution to solve this problem?

Re: crash while importing s63 map

Rekya,

you are using the latest version of the S-63 plug-in?

Importing of cells is quite quick and might just take some time if you decide to create the SENCs on the fly.

- The UserPermit and the InstallPermit are in place and validated ok?
- You have installed the S-63 cell permits from PERMIT.txt?

If all this is positive, then we would need to see the log file, please.

Re: crash while importing s63 map

Thanks for your reply Hubert!

The User- and InstallPermit are in place and I have installed the cell permits from PERMIT.txt.

I'm afraid I can't upload the log file because of the boards 1KB file size limit. It is actually 4.8MB. Is there a way to upload larger files?

You can either zip and post the log as .doc here or just send it as zipped file to
info at o-charts.org

Re: crash while importing s63 map

A short intermediate report:
the chart set used (S-63 Navionics by Chartworld) contains some 12.500 single cells or chartlets.
What bombs OpenCPN under Windows when installing.
Under investigation...

In the future we suggest using this tread:

found by going to "Plugins Link" sticky thread

Re: crash while importing s63 map

Rick,

- first this is not a Mac (but Win), and this is perhaps not a platform specific issue.

So not a good idea perhaps, to hide it on a heap.
Small single threads are easier to find (and to close) in my opinion.

Re: crash while importing s63 map

Rick...
Can you please name one single advantage it has to group completely unrelated stuff in a few massive threads lasting forever instead of having per-subject threads as we always have had and as internet forums are designed to work? I think I am not the only one who does not understand...

Re: crash while importing s63 map

Sorry the suggestion should have been for S63 Charts.
Pavel, it seems there is not agreement on this. For plugins there is an advantage IMHO, because the searches are more focused, and users have a better chance of finding what is germane to their problem. - BTW We will never agree on this, I think.
