crash

Hallo
I think opencpn is a very fine chart plotter, but it does not run stable.

I use 4.4.0 and previous versions have same troubles.

I use it on five different PC/laptops with Win7/8.1/10. With Nvidia and/or Intel graphik. The crash ist allways the same.

I use only "austrian inland enc chart" with chartdownloader.

1st.
Very easy to crash it - I use the green targets for moving the chart - than its frozen. Move / size with mouse / mouseweel it needs a little bit longer.

2nd.
cpn runs more stable with an external connection to GPS with RS232.
I sail with my boat and the chart is moving - all is working, but
cpn loose more and more signs, buoys and informations and after aprox. half our / our it crash.

So have anyone an idea?
Have an another danube skipper same troubles - or a solution?

Thanks for helping

We will need some more information.
Can you tell us a chart example you are using when the crash happens?
Please attach the OCPN log file.
A crash dump would be helpful as well.

Re: crash

Hi bnc - thanks for answer.

About your Questions:

1.)
I use only "austrian inland enc chart" with chartdownloader. Its on the complete river. f.e. jpg.

2.)
I found a install.log, but its to big for upload.

3.)
What do you mean with crash dump?

best regards

Re: crash

For generating and sending a "crash report" please look here:
Help Fix Bugs! | Official OpenCPN Homepage

The OpenCPN log file - not the install log - resides in the case of Windows at \ProgramData\openCPN
The \ProgramData directory may have a different name depending on your language settings.
Look at Help, the "?" button from the tool bar, to see where the log and the .ini/setting files are located.
Under Windows you might need to enable to show Hidden Folders in the File Explorer (in the case the \ProgramData directory does not show up).

To attach the .log to your posting rename it for example to log.doc to overcome restrictions of the forum.
