Configuring GPS to Run with OpenCPN

Hope this is not an FAQ but I have been digging around in the docs for a few hours and am still stuck....

I am using a Dell Inspiron 11z wich has a built in Dell Wireless 705 GPS Receiver. This is a combination of Skyhook XPS and Broadcom GPS.

This receiver is running on COM4 as "Dell Wireless GPS/WPS Virtual COM Port".

Com3 is running "DW705 CP210x Port" with port setting: Bits Per Second 4800, Data bits 8, Parity none, Stop bits 1, Flow control none.

When I try to configure this in OpenCPN, when point to COM4, it accepts the settings, but does not seem to know my loction. I get no error and no text in the data steam window. When I point to COM3 I get an error popup "Could not connect to serial port COM3".

Is my GPS not compatible? Am I configuring it wrong?

I am running 2.1.0 b624a.

Thanks,

Brian

When you select the "Show GPS/NMEA data stream window" do you see readable data passing by?

No. The window opens but never has any data. Just a blank window.

Raindog,

Have you try through a Virtual Serial Ports Emulator like Etherlogic one ?
May be it will help.

I've got one of these and it's running perfect / easy (says on comm 10, but I'm sure it will be machine to machine specific).
