Compatibility wxWidgets 2.9.0 and VC++ 2010

Does anybody know something about the compatibility of OpenCPN using wxWidgets 2.9.0 and VC++ 2010?

As these are the main components for compiling OpenCPN, I would find it interesting to know, if it works (with the latest versions of these programs).

I used the search function of the forum but was unable to find related answers.

I am mostly interested in this question because of Daves question

AFAIK Bart (champ8242) has already made it to compile with VC++ 2010.

Any tips, hints and help will be very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Gunther

wxWidgets 2.9.0 gives a flavour of what will be provided in the stable wxWidgets 3.0 version next year
This means IMHO wait for a stable 3.0 and (for sp1 at least)

Thomas, Bart,

thanks for the information.
To sum it up: Keep version 2.8.xx for compiling and wait if it is worth to port OCPN to version 3.x (in the future).

BTW: Are there "real" advantages in latter versions so that it is worth the work for Dave, or is it just because some versions of wxWidgets aren't downward compatible?

And Bart, am I right that you managed to compile OCPN with VC++2010?

Thanks,
Gunther
