COG Predictor stability

Have been travelling in narrow passages during rather heavy old swell this season and found the (in)stability of the COG predictor (the red dashed line showing COG course) a bit cumbersome at times. I'd love to see some averaging (customizable?) settings like '0' for no averaging alternatively averaging time in seconds (up to e.g. 5 seconds).

Correct me if I'm wrong but the GOG predictor seems to be recalculated between each GPS data reception, e.g. once a second. In rough seas this could cause instability that could be confusing, especially if going on autopilot referencing magnetic course.

My question is hence: Is there a setting for time averaging the GOG predictor?

LennartG...
That's what "Filter NMEA Course and Speed data" setting on the Connections tab in the Toolbox is (As described in Connections | Official OpenCPN Homepage).

Re: COG Predictor stability

Pavel,

thanks for your prompt reply! That was one of the settings I have been looking at but, at the same time, overlooked. You are right, it does exactly what I was asking for.
