I have a sincere question about CM93. I see various places to download it. I imagine that the "93" is from 1993 so it is probably a little old but may well be good enough for navigation in a lot of places.

My question is, can you buy SM93 data? Is it licensed? Are these free downloads just going around the copyright sort of like music is shared?

The CM93 data seems to come from C-Map. They only have NT+, MAX, and MAX Pro today so maybe CM93 data is really free?

Anyone know for sure?

Nope it's just a name they're still updated for legacy customers, there is a 2009 version floating about even.

I have seen it around for sale, for instance here [Edit: that's 93/3 already, so it seems 93/2 has indeed been phased out].

Yes, packages that are shared online and in the community are "circumventing copyright law". Sharing things is against all sorts of laws, particularly in the US.

Since you're from the US you might not be aware that selling taxpayer-funded charts back to the taxpayer is BIG business anywhere else in the world.

For 93/3 and all later formats, the publisher has started using encryption to make aforementioned sharing harder (or impossible). This parallels the development in raster charts with the encrypted BSB4+ formats.

AFAIK CM93/2 has NOT been released into the public domain, although you may wish to drop Boeing/Jeppersen an e-mail suggesting as much.

I'm a UKHO licensee so I know about international charts and royalties. I just wasn't aware of CM93. I haven't seen that much in the US.

Thanks - you cleared it up for me.

It's even warmer (every day) on my boat along the coast of Florida! We're slowly heading back to Maine now.

I did download the CM93 ed2 May 2009, but when upzipping I get the message "archive header broken". What can I do to unzip? Thanks

I had all three files in the same directory and used a RAR Extractor that I downloaded for free and it worked fine.
Can't help more than that.

CM93 ed2009

Sorry to bother you once more. I created 3 folders for the 3 different zones (Zone 1-2, Zone 3-9, Zone9) and then extracted each folder with a RAR extractor. When I build only 1 folder and put all zones in this, I got an error message.
With the 3 folders I was able to extract. Now, I find in all 3 folders the same file numbers: 0030000-04501020. The folder properties state 7554, 9432 and 6101 files, which makes a total of 23087 files or a total of 1.426 MB. Is that correct? I feel not sure with the 3 folders, but this was the only way to extract! Thanks for reply. Regards Paul

my directory has:
650 MB
9435 files
791 folders.

You seem to have gotten much more data than I did. Perhaps I ended up with only one of the files extracted. In much of the world, I can only see Z, A and B charts.

hanschristian38, Yes I think you do not have all of it. You should have 23000 files and 1.4GB. Sinbad has even 83000files of a previous version!

I did find my problem and now have a complete set. Thanks Polo.

I appears that the link no longer works. I am glad I got them when I did.
