Climatology : various malfunctions

Hello Sean of Epagnier,

First, happy new year.

Second, sorry to disturb you as you sailed now.

Third :
I am now passing on Climatology. And this to update the web page of the French tutorial "opencpn.shoreline". So I realize some tests.

I had an installation of version 1.2. I started by uninstalling Climatology and looked at if the uninstallation is done well.

As with WeatherRouting, the uninstaller does not do its job properly.
- The data folder in the OpenCPN installation folder is successfully deleted.
- The uninstaller is also properly deleted.

But, in the initialization file "opencpn.ini", nothing is deleted. The following lines or text remain:

[Settings/Climatology]
lastdatatype=9

[PlugIns]
PluginOrder=NVC;S63;oeSENC;ObjSearch;ChartDownload er;GoogleEarth;VDR;Climatology;GRIB;OCPN Draw;WeatherRouting;AIS Radar view;BR24Radar;Dashboard;FindIt;ge2kap;GxRadar;HiR es;IACFleet;Logbook;ncdf;ntcurrent;OpenCPNDebugger ;otidalroute;Polar;ROUTE;SAR;Survey;TnL Lines;Watchdog;WMM

WindOverlayInterpolation=0
WindIsoBars=1

Re: Climatology : various malfunctions

hello Sean d'Epagnier,

Sorry, some other malfunctions :

I chose to display the isobars for all data. And I made sure that the calculation goes from 20mb to 20mb for each type of data. I try with january, 2 of month data.

The results are completely abnormal. For some data, nothing is displayed, for other data, the displays are different from one type of data to another.

See the screenshots below.

AmI missing something when I choice the options ?

Re: Climatology : various malfunctions

hello Sean d'Epagnier,

I still have an idea ... farfetched ... although, to experience ... it seems that it is not as far-fetched as that.

There is only one item in the language file: "iso bars". In french I undestand it as "Isobares". That is to say line of equal pressure. And so I translate this item as "Isobares" a long time ago .... And, so, the french version is farfetched !

In fact, I wonder if, in reality, you wanted to use a single item to designate all types of curves:
Curves of equal wind speed (nodes)
Equal pressure curve (Hpa)
Curve of equal temperature, (° C or ° F)
Curve of equal cloud cover (%)
Curve of equal precipitation (in mm)
Curve of equal relative humidity (%)
Curve .. Hum for the lights, I do not know ...
Curve of equal depth (meters or feet)

For example, an "isotherm" is a line of equal temperature. For sea temperature and air temperature, one might consider that you wanted to draw the isotherms instead of the isobars. In this case, your displays might make sense. That is to say that you can display isotherms of 20 in 20. Which would explain the difference of display ...

But, then, it is necessary to put as many items, in the language file, as of the type of data concerned. And use the word that goes well.

If you absolutely want to keep a single item, you may need to highlight the unit of measure that goes with it. For example, speed in knots, pressure in hpa, temperature in degree (C or F) etc ....

In the meantime, I modified the old translation, in the Crowdin, replacing it with an approximate word not usual for the French language.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: Climatology : various malfunctions

Gilletarom, Climatology has been around a very long time. There are no "malfunctions" that I am aware of.

Yes and no.

1° On the one hand, I persist regarding the uninstaller which is not able to uninstall everything.

2° Second, the translation anomaly trapped me until this morning. I had never considered that "Iso bars" does not mean "Isobares" in French. Especially since the first translator of this plugin was Pavel. And from memory, at first, there was only wind, pressure and cyclones. It was more than 3 years ago. And Pavel had translated it as "Isobares".
And I considered this translation to be correct.
So, now I update Crowdin this morning. So it is necessary to update Climatology . Sorry to disturb.

3° In third, on my Lenovo, I observe a serious anomaly of overlay display.

And I thought that the displays of "iso bars" disfunctioned as much as the display of overlay.

This morning I had the opportunity to install OpenCPN and Climatology on a new Microsoft tablet. It obviously runs under W 10.

Now I do not have the same anomaly of overlay display on the tablet as on the Lenovo.

Specifically, here are 3 screenshots.
- The first corresponds to a display on my Lenovo with the smallest possible zoom, so with the minimum zoom level.
- The second corresponds to a display on my Lenovo, not with the minimal level of zoom. From this zomm level to the zoom level of previous screen copy, I click only once on "Zoom -".
- The third one corresponds to a display on the tablet, with the smallest zoom possible, so, minimum zoom also.

The horizontal lines on the Lenovo appear, with different colors, more or less in the same place, with all the data (Wind, pressure, Current, etc.) and only whith trhe level of zoom minimal (level 0)

Best regards. Gilletarom.

That's pretty darn recent. Should not be a problem. When I get a chance, I'll try checking with my Win10 MS Surface Pro3

I'm afraid this is a problem for almost all plugins and even the main program OpenCPN itself. When deactivating or deleting a plugin or when updating the main program the settings in opencpn.ini are not touched or altered at all. The plugin developer is left alone for this cases. There is no guide provided to the developers. Very stupid situation.

Re: Climatology : various malfunctions

I hope it's ok if I write in this thread.

For wind data there should be 8 arrows around a circle with the number of days with calm if you enable wind atlas, should it not ?

When I enable wind atlas I get the numbers but not the graphic showing the arrows.

Found what was wrong myself.

The "Opacity" slider was on 0.

Re: Climatology : various malfunctions

Tried Climatology in v4.4. My comments and observations are as follows:
1. My settings were messed up.
2. With messed up settings I could not see wind rose and the overlay wound slide with respect to the outlines of continents.
3. Note that you must have Opengl enabled.
4. Note the settings in Config > Wind Tab that work 100 and 100 50% transparency. See screenshot
5. Note the settings in Config > wind overlay that work. See screenshot.

6. @ Gille. I use multiple versions of Opencpn 4.0, 4.4 and 4.5 on my machine because of compiling, testing and answering questions. If the uninstaller removes all the settings in config and I have Climatology installed for two of the versions let's say, and if it were to remove all climatology settings in config, I would then have to reinstall Climatology on the other version that I use it in! That would be a bother.

If Climatology is not installed in a given version, the Config Settings for Climatology are just ignored! And that's the way I like it!!!!
