Re: Climatology

Kubek, Sean made a new data make file that I've run, and will be uploading next, but the following is for Sean, and regards Windows Climatology:

1. Isobar Building & Progress Bar - Works fine when wait for it to complete the process. Fails and hangs when click twice on UP in Config > Spacing, thereby interrupting the isobar process and causing program contortions!

2. Tabs - About, Cyclone, Wind for other settings appear to be covered or ignored for the more dominent "General" Tab, so in WINDOWS, we have no access to the actual Cyclone, Wind, About tabs - Sean, I apologize profusely for Microsoft and MSVC Compiler, it make me fit to be tied too! -Can anyone look at this and give us some suggestions? --It is probably some arcane "has to be in this order of things". Sean has made every effort to fix this Windows problem, but his is working through me at the end of a very long pole (1/2 the world away!) Pavel, ChuckSK, Just hint would be very helpful. Generically what causes this problem. Sean is on a schedule and he want to get to the Weather_routing next!

3. Cyclones -- The 4 to 5 stray cyclones that showed up earlier, have disappeared when cyclones are on. This just gave me an idea.... turn on cyclones through Opencpn.ini setttings! -I'll try that next. after upload the screenshots.

Hope this is the right sea surf temp SST data now! It is what downloaded.

Re: Climatology

Sean, after looking at the logs some of the cyclone files arent loading. See attached please.

2:59:10 PM: climatology_pi: failed to open file: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins/climatology/data/cyclone-wpa
2:59:10 PM: climatology_pi: failed to open file: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins/climatology/data/cyclone-nio

Two attached files, one for Windows, one for Linux, with the opencpn.ini and log in each.

Did not find any settings for Cyclones that I could tweak.
Attached Files
File Type: doc Linux-Climatology-Opencpn.conf-Opencpn.doc (66.6 KB, 22 views)
File Type: doc Windows-Climatology-Opencpn.ini-opencpn.doc (186.0 KB, 31 views)

Re: Climatology

Plugins-Beta -CLIMATOLOGY_PI DATA UPDATE 5
Compiled current as of May 24,2013, 4:50pm.

Opencpn Beta Login - Plugins - rguser, rgpass. Pick the "Climate-Data-5" directory.
1. Download CL-DATA-5.zip (6.9mb) OR all the individual files.
2. Copy them uncompressed to opencpn/plugins/cliimatology/data/ directory.
3. There should be 42 files, including the zipped file.

Sean (boat_alexandra) has updated the data and may have reduced the number of cyclone files. This data should work will the next climatology_pi.dll which I will also upload, now
Certain aspects are not completely working in windows:
1.Tabs,
2. Isobar -Careful not to click on config > isobar > spacing > (up or down arrow) more than once or isobar building with freeze -wait for it to finish.
3. Cyclones.

However Sean would like you to try try it out and test it over the next week. Hopefully there will be another version tomorrow or the next day with the other features working.

Find the Climatology_pi.dll under Plugins-Beta-Opencpn-3.2
climatology_win32_pi19_v01_pi.dll uses CL-DATA-3 -old one
climatology_win32_pi19_v02_pi.dll uses CL-DATA-5 -new one

Re: Climatology

Sean, I just tried Climatology again 6-10-13 version, with a new start of Opencpn 3.3.424 (my regular release type Opencpn using Program Files(x86)) and I discovered a piece of a cyclone off of AUS & NZ (see screen), then incredibly, the darn TABS started working!!!

Don't ask me why, I am having difficulty with MSVC, very frustrating, but at least it works now in normal Opencpn without debbug code. ---Is it reliably working? I don't know. I've seen this before, MSVC screws it up, but it works in the release version. It happened with Celestial_Nav and I am no longer going to fight with this baloney, just use it and don't worry about I think. I should not rely on MSVC for everything, but also test in release version!, more work, less pain. Its baloney MS, now I get what you guys talk about.

Now there's just getting all the cyclones to appear (its a wonderful display of weather power in Linux right now) and that mod to isobar building which lets it finish what is doing in peace without starting something else.

Here are some shots. I believe I uploaded the dll to file thingie and the only thing I did was change the name to the beta format. The piece of the cyclone is between the Display control and the Climatology Configuration.

We're getting Closer!!

Re: Climatology

Sean, In WINDOWS RELEASE version 3.3.424 SeaSurfaceTemp Isobar seems to be hanging up and causing to Task Manager > Shutdown of Opencpn see attached please. Has happend about 4 four times going through each data type and isobars, transparency (very nice) etc.

I am going to try it on 500 next, started at about 10

===Found out the Release version had previous version of the data. Have updated to CL-DATA-5 from today.

Re: Climatology

Okay, WINDOWS -release version 3.3.424 , now found that SeaDepth Isobar hangs with spacing set to 1000. This is with the new data from today!! Maybe it is something data related.

-Also note that seasurfacetemp Isobar is okay with new data...

Of course Isobar needs update to allow focus to complete before doing something else the impatient user might do. Like hit up button before complete.

Your main repository for opencpn is way out of date

Re: Climatology

Sean got the new Git. Compiled, In MSVC again Debug mode.
Found 2-3 cyclones near AUS. Essential checks are SouthPacific, ElNino, ExtraTropical.

So that's working. Is it some esoteric data problem? Not reading the file? Why I wonder.

Re: Climatology

Also, I just realized that TABS are now showing in MSVC, ----what did you do? I could not have been change the order of the tabs only? --or was it? Increable!

So all that is left is those cyclones. What can I do to help?
Try another data download?
By the way the data is uploaded to CL-DATA-5.zip Maybe you want to look or check the cyclone files?

3-4 Cyclones near AUS, Essential checks are S.Pacific, Extra Tropical, & Elnino

Turn on all others and no additional. ---file read problem?

Re: Climatology

Plugins-Beta -CLIMATOLOGY_PI DATA UPDATE 5
Compiled current as of June 10,2013.

Opencpn Beta Login - Plugins - rguser, rgpass. Pick the "Climate-Data-5" directory.
1. Climatology_pi-newest.dll is most recent.
2. Download CL-DATA-5.zip (6.9mb) OR all the individual files.
2. Copy them uncompressed to opencpn/plugins/cliimatology/data/ directory.
3. There should be 42 files, including the zipped file.
4. Also you may need Opencpn 3.3.424 if you have an old version. See the directory labels with the plugins associated. Old plugins generally will run with newer Ocpn versions.

5. Also updated today, Sean's other plugins
Watchman, Celestial_Navigation, Weatherfax, Weather_Routing, and Rtlsdr

There have been some improvements to Watchman, Rtlsdr and to a lesser degree the others.

Re: Climatology

Could you try checking every single check box in the cyclones tab, and selecting all months, and possibly then change min windspeed to 30 or even less. You should see a lot of cyclones.

I have the same two small tracks with those settings.

December isn't a big month in south pacific, and trying to find cases of 60 knots or more there are not a lot.

Re: Climatology

Kudo,
I am sorry I have not been paying attention to your notes and normally I wold because we really need guys like you who are willing and able to compile and test stuff, so if this is not a help, I am sorry, however there is a Development Debugging Thread you might find helpful. It is essentially a thread that follows my course getting going with lots of help from others like Pavel, JesperWe, bdbcat, etc. Please see Hakans Note and my note following:
Development Debugging Environment - Setup Help

I will try to read all your notes today, in between helping Sean and doing my own work.

By the way, some of your posts might be better in that thread, because they put the question and response to technical Windows Development Environment in a common place where others can benefit. Just a suggestion.

Now I see you are using Linux, not Windows! maybe you should start a new thread Development Environment -Linux - Setup help.
