Re: Climatology

Climatology Data has been updated. Sean has made some improvements and reduced size for several data types. The old directory "Climate-Data-2" is outdated, use the "Climate-Data-3" directory. There are 42 files needed. You may download the single zip file CL-DATA3.zip instead.

Hi,

I checked new set of data (CL-DATA3.zip) for climatology plugin and seasurfacetemperature.gz is still "corrupted" as I wrote previously. Size of the file is 416084 bytes is the same like bad one but md5sum is different 61644fcf4ec77f1e5ff535368b14f9f9. I upload file that I received from boat_alexandra see "http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f134/climatology-102281-8.html#post1254542" and it now works fine. Please check it again!

Re: Climatology

Kubek,

The file uploaded is exactly what the command "make -k" in gendata produced. It took 3.5 hours to compile all the data and seasurfacetemp.gz was downloaded direct from NOAA in accord with programming Sean did.

Unfortunately, I remain skeptical that you have the right sea temp data. Perhaps Sean can clarify this so that if changes must be made to makefile, that can also be done now. I will change it once that becomes clear and I know how the makefile should be changed.

However, thanks for your attention and persistence!

- You just reminded me, I need to update the data file in Ocpn 3.2

Sorry for my english,

I made mistake, I didn't upload any data. I just replaced seasurfacetemp.gz file which arrived with CL-DATA3.zip data set with that I have received from boat_alexandra. I have good result only with boat_alexandra's seasurfacetemp.gz file.

Re: Climatology

Kubek, I am not sure you have the correct data, or possbily the Makefile for gendata is not correct.... I hope Sean will fix it so it downloads the correct data, if that is the problem.

Re: Climatology

Hi,

I try to play with other option of climatology plugin.
I would like to see cyclones, but I can only see one on Atlantic and 4 on Pacific during last 63 years period. Missed I some option? Should I download some additional data?

Re: Climatology

Great, Try clicking on other months, say August or September! or select All.
If one shows, they all will show I think.

Are you using Linux? It would be helpful to know, as Climatology plugin for Windows does NOT compile right now.

Try doing some general weather_routing using Sean's weather routing plugin and climatology. - To do that check climatology in the weather_routing.
Its pretty darn powerful.

Let us know if you find any problems. Also if you could check farenheit and celcius shows properly for each of the data types, I would really appreciate it!

Here is a routing done with an older Climatology.dll plugin that actually compiled for Windows and the grib plugin. The currents are coming from Climatology and the Wind data from the grib file.

This is the only way to include currents so far, because the Grib plugin can only read one grib file at a time.... but it is still pretty good.

Re: Climatology

Kubek, Sean is leaving in several weeks and will be gone for quite awhile sailing and he'd like to release his plugins, so your testing will be very much appreciated!

The plugins are:

Climatology
Weather_routing
Watchman
Celestial_Navigation
also Grib - Sean and JP are working on that.
and Rtlsdr

Re: Climatology

Kubek, I see you are using Linux. Cyclones should work. They do not currently in Windows version.

Re: Climatology

Kubek, you must be using the climatology_pi.dll on File Thingie, which is an older version that did compile for windows. The current plugin code does not compile using MSVC due to several Isobar errors. Sean is working on getting that running better in Windows, and when he advises I will update the plugin.

A couple of notes about Linux. Pavel suggested that I install Virtualbox on my Windows machine and then I installed Ubuntu 12.04. There are some things to learn but it seems to run fine.

I think north indian cyclones is broken for everyone.. maybe file is missing. Settings seem fine. Try a starting year after 1972 as windows has problems with early years maybe.. Maybe you can try with opengl enabled also to compare.

Re: Climatology

Sean I can no longer compile climatology in MSVC for Windows, from recent git clone. There are isobar errors....in output, possibly because you're updating isobars to be faster & better and work in windows (i hope). sent an email to you earlier.

(I am using an earlier version dll for routing until it will compile.)

Re: Climatology

Sean, Good news! Climatology compiles with MSVC Windows, and it runs in Debugger! The isobars seem to be working for everything as I checked them on and had to adjust a number of Data Type spaces considerably lower to get isobars showing:
Wind 100 --->5
RH ---->5
Sea temp ---->10 etc
Sea Level Pressure ---> 1 or 5

Why not have these values initialized or ones similar to start?

The Cyclones don't seem to show up yet. I tried a number of settings but no luck yet.

There are a few unit problems and one interface problem I think.
Sea Level Pressure - uses millibar and mmh - are the values changing correctly? Could not tell.
Sea Depth shows Knots and MPH. Need feet and meters
RH shows Meters and Feet needs %
Cloud Cover shows Othas whatever that is, why not %
About does not seem to work with the Html showing.

Then the interface problem in Config is with Wind, Current, Cyclones and About
The "Standard Displays" tab works fine.
Wind tab - needs to just show Wind without a drop down selector for data type.
Current tab - needs to just show Current without a drop down selector for data type.
Cyclones tab - needs to show it's settings which are missing, with no dropdown seleector.
About - needs to load the html file.

Good work!! Not a single break complaint! Hooray. Should I wait to upload it for one more iteration before the other beta testers try it out?
