Anyone who can read chinese? I'm guessing that the grammar (in chinese) is not good. I have a feeling that the site is auto-generated by a program which converts many sites to a chinese version.

Don't think they claim copyright on open cpn, merely on their website design. As every Chinese website needs to display the official ICP Number on page, this is also included.
The company claims to provide consulting and installation services, probably a fees able thing to do for the Chinese customer who in most cases will not speak well enough English to follow international forums. International blogs where sailing issues are discussed are commonly inaccessible from china due to the Chinese firewall.
Registering the domain opencpn.cn is also not infringing any copyright.

Anyhow, I find it interesting to see that in china the interest seems to be rising for boat related products as more Chinese people seem to find their pleasure with boating.

I can read Chinese, but not as good as when I was young. Their contents are exactly like the English version, nothing more and nothing less.

Re: Chinese website OpenCPN ...

I took a look at cruising china since I was seriously considering going there. From what I can tell the rules are very restrictive and one of the most unfriendly countries to cruise in (although better than saudi arabia or north korea) It is illegal to sail in many of the major rivers, fees are excessive, and there are lots of rules. Hong Kong is much better, but small..

Has anyone actually sailed in china? Maybe the site is for chinese people who don't live in china.

We too thought it could be great, possibly one of the most exotic places we could visit. I wuld love to sail through a few of the James Bond sites. As I looked into it, seems you may need to have a minder on the boat, feed him and arrange for his transportation home at the end of your cruise. Cruise fees were around 6000 US. (and not easy to arrange) This was a few years ago. I was hoping they might change.
