Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Jim

I think Alanpedas perl script is the way to go. I have not used it yet though.
I would just create a tile as you say, and check the final chart. A bit of work in Gimp or photoshop or similar would probably fix it.

For now, just mark the problem cases so we can handle them later.

Not sure whether we should fix (gimp) missing tiles, except the white ones...

Started a list of problem cases:

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Hi chart down- and uploaders ...

There were two faulty (named) charts uploaded:
  1. 23055
  2. 51042
Charts with these numbers do not exist. Please let me know the correct numbers of the charts so I may correct - thanks.

Gunther

Gunther

A quick check reveals
23055 -> 24055
51042 -> 52042

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Congrats to everyone who is involved in the downloading, reviewing and formating of this extremely valuable chart source and for all of the hard work and effort that has been put into acquiring and converting this resource.

The fact that the charts are freely available and effectively 'open source' is of course an important aspect of the project.

For those of us who do not have the necessary computer skills to get involved but would like to see and use these charts it would be helpful if an explanation of HOW & WHEN & WHERE the finished chart files can be downloaded.

Doug

the next step in the process, calibrating the "simple/rectangular" charts, is where we need help from many users. The goal is to simplify this task and you will be able to help out:

As far as I understand, it will involve downloading the 4 corners of a chart, then entering lat/lon and x/y pixel count for each chart corner, into a webform.

From there, a mainly automated process should create the chart (de-scew, resize, color reduction, kap generation).

So, no hiding behind "necessary computer skills", OK?

I'm sure many users would like to help but feel frustrated with this thread. There are no step-by-step instructions for non script experts. Barring the people who knows what is going on - for the rest of us, this thread is a confusing mess. Unless somebody is going to take the time to post a detailed step-by-step procedure, you "experts" will have to do all the work by yourselves. Help me to help you is what I say.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Moose...
We are already preparing the recipe in our kitchen, but you guys have to be a bit patient. We have to calibrate 2700 charts, no doubt there will be more than enough work for everybody interested
Right now the bodycount is 2109, so we have to download and stitch about 600 charts to have the raw data for the whole set. Then we have to burn quite a few CPU cycles to transform them to a form anybody will be able to calibrate, finish the needed tools and scripts and write the instructions. All this needs it's time.
