The answer to 1. is "on your server".
And for the latter "everywhere (on very website) you'd like". What I meant is that imho we do not need to also setup any website on your server as it would be sufficient if the links are propagated on the already existing 'opencpn.xxx' websites.
I hope this makes things clearer?

Thanks
Gunther
No need to clarify - I'm just over eager to start downloading!

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

I kinda feel left out in the cold as I do not know how these images are stitched, converted and correctly ligned up with co-ordinates. I will be grateful if somebody will post a Idiot's Guide step by step procedure what to do. Yes, I have read the entire thread - several times.

Appreciated!

Have just retested with Polar Navy (Polar View + Polar COM) and the recalibrated kap chart loads and looks great, BUT the chart appears skewed by about 2-3 degrees any ideas Brak

here is the bodrum chart 54412.kap

Your chart is slightly skewed. I think it boils down to geo referencing.
Compare with this version:54412_cag.kap - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download. Same picture, new geo-referencing and header file.
Note how the PLY polygon is following the inner border of the chart. Anything else looks horrible when quilting.

MooseM

many ways to skin the cat, and this is what all the discussion is about.

We have good ways to download and stitch, python (and ruby and other) scripts, they all need certain pre-requisites installed. The stitched, fullsize images will then end up on YOUR server.

To get to a reduced size image, calibrated, is still a very unclear process and I would call currently produced kap files as experimental.

Dan/dacust has a website with more explanations, maybe start here:
http://www.dacust.com/inlandwaters/mapcal/

The imgkap utility is being discussed here:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ool-56600.html

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Thanks for fixing the skewed chart problem Mapcal can automatically set the border to the image border which is what I used. This obvously includes all the crap at the chart edge. When I manually set the border the skewing problem went away and just the chart area is displayed and quilted

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

So many options in conversion...because there's map2kap too!-it runs beautifully fast working through batches of premade tiffs that were themselves batched from the jpegs as to conversion per colourpalette and all)...
map2kap likes to use the "map" file from OziNav but if a template could be used along the same lines..or it could use mc2bsbh's hdrs and all that...?

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

need help with one file:

NGA chart 61601 Rodrigues
http://www.charts.noaa.gov/NGAViewer/61601.shtml

Could someone with a more powerful machine download and stitch this for me? Upload anywhere for me to grab it. Then the Region 6 download would be complete! Thanks!

Explanation: The ruby script is doing something wrong with this chart, calculating and trying to download a non-existing tile. I have the python script running since 4h, but it doesn't finish on my little 1Gbyte Ram machine.

The better solution would be to fix the ruby script, which is beyond my capabilities....

Update on the Project!

Thank you all down-loaders, for your hard work!

Good News!

Chart pictures can now be uploaded here: chart image uploader. Only full size, raw jpg:s please.
Be careful and follow the instructions.
Regard this as "beta" testing. Everything is still not worked out.
Special thanks to Nohal/Pavel for setting this up.

To see already uploaded chart pictures check Index of /ngacharts/nga

Through MooseMoney and Nohal we now have server space available and it will not be necessary to use 4share, dropbox or similar.

We still have to work out how to best proceed with the full size jpg:s.

Netsurfer/Gunther is working on the opencpn.info site, that will be were things happen and on the backend "infrastructure".

To wet your appetite, here is a link to some test_kaps. These are not "official" releases, but for testing and evaluation only. They are downsized, to varying degrees, but many are still a bit bigger in size than ideal.
Have a look at the Guiana charts around Cayenne. Is this the way to treat inserts?

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Hi Thomas,

will upload the 52039 - 52143 step by step.
Is there a possibility for a batch upload?

I have the 52125.kap available and I would like to have this "reviewed" before generating more kap:s. The header is following your example.
Is there a site for upload as well?

You are mentioning that you are not satisfied with the size of some files.
What are you considering an "ideal" size?

Thomas / Pavel

good start!

I would be needing the FTP access also, for 304 jpgs of Region-6, please PM me with info and I will fill in Region 6.

Comments on the web-upload:
  • some jpgs exceed 100Mbyte
  • The progress info doesn't seem to work here (XP-firefox)

('upload_max_filesize' is 50M per file)
('post_max_size' is 64M per submit)
Download started since 262.302 seconds. No progress info yet

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

I am getting close to having 9xxxx done, 37 more to go! I will finish these tonight and begin uploading.

There are quite a few that the python script chokes on and I could not grab. I suspect that the ImageProperties.xml files are not correct rather than missing tiles. The script is written to alert upon encountering a missing tile and I was never alerted. On these files the script would just stop. I tried each of them on different machines with the same results.

Anyway, here is the list of the ones that I could not get. If someone would grab these I would greatly appreciate it. There are quite a few

Lucky me I left web development when I was young and strong enough not to get crazy
Will try to have a look what could cause it, but hard to say if I find something...
