We ought to write some release notes about charts that have some kind of "issues". Sometimes I wish that OpenCPn was a bit more verbose in it's chart info......

43082 is a tmerc (but I'm not sure its warped) with slightly converging meridians.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Exactly - and this is not limited to the NGA project

We have all seen charts that are off by meters or miles.
For CM there is the option to move/correct those - vector charts.

But what about a prominent comment for the other candidates?
How do commercial systems handle this? Do they?

Region 2 is done (all 6) 24350 and 24390 didn't seem to have a bump-out. I didn't try to change their status.

David,

that would not be the first chart in the wrong category.
Please just change it then to "doable..."

...I think I'll just leave cropping of the 8000 series for whoever has some charts of the area...too many "judgement calls" for me!

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Hi,BCN...well,they're harder...old charts of atolls surrounded by blocks of text.I agree that it's foolish to approach a tricky entrance across a Fathom-to-Meter conversion table if there's another (albeit maybe a smaller scale) chart that has soundings available to appear underneath,quilted..
But a simple corner cut-out can be messy...shall I lose that single sounding or not?If I include that sounding, some text of the legend will remain.A stepped cut may solve that but once started, the thing can grow quite monstrous and it's unknown to me just now,if the thing will even work in OpenCPN or other apps...so,is that sounding important?or include the text?...and so on...I'm saying,I'll get a bit of practise on easier ones before I hack into them..or better yet, someone more familiar with what other charts are available to quilt up through....d'you see?

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Happy,

do understand.
Yes, there will be tricky ones - in the older charts I found already some quite strange things too (sectors for lighthouses going beyond the inner chart border, but you need those to have the information about the color of the sector).

Step by step so...

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

An observation after doing the Region2 "Special PLY's needed":

There are different criteria applied to mark a chart as "Special PLY's needed":

- indents or extrusions are identified always
- some charts are marked because of text or legends are "on the water"

The latter does not make harm as it has to be done anyhow, but be aware that this criteria has not been applied in all Regions. Does mean that there are charts after this run that still have that cosmetic issue!

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Agreed,BCN.I made that mistake myself, even being happy to add the "thumbs",but forgetting to check for rafts of text that could be cropped out-I had to go back and do again...and as you say, some with "rafts" never were marked for "special plys" .

By the way,I think that if you come across a corner inset -a "Doable but with rectangular inset" I think these can now be "done" as a crop-to-quilt without changing the status.I've only just done the one to see(#76171).I am now only applying this to those with small insets on the borders to begin-where these insets are on any navigable water....

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Happy,

yes, indents can be masked off as well - without changing the status.
We have to know that there are insets be be georeferenced and to be cut out.

In this moment I would prefer not to mix the steps and finish first with the "Special PLY's needed" to go ahead later on.

...there's a good idea!I wonder if it could be shoehorned into the title of the chart..or somewhere else in the header, inside the pre-requisites of the kap format...a trick,in other words?I'm going to play with this...

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

82304- a new (subcategory) PLY's AND insets
what to do to keep track of this?

81737- off grid. And it seems to me just the amount of corrections following the datum notes on the charts. Would like to have a second (or third) opinion about it.
