Ole,
Try the new beta version, Hydrographicas charts are in Transverse Mercator projection, and the handling of them is improved in the (coming) new version.

I will test myself, but I dont have time right know.

I just downloaded and tested the demo chart. Works just fine in latest beta. OpenCPN 2.x directly supports Transverse Mercator Projection, which 1.3.6 didn't, though they are not "quiltable", ....yet.

8:47:14 PM: Line Index corrupt, recreating Index for chart F:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\KapGen\BSB-Test\HG-DEMO_1.KAP
8:47:14 PM: CreateLineIndex() failed on chart F:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\KapGen\BSB-Test\HG-DEMO_1.KAP
8:47:14 PM: Error creating Line Index for chart F:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\KapGen\BSB-Test\HG-DEMO_1.KAP
8:47:14 PM: OpenChartFromStack...Error opening chart F:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\KapGen\BSB-Test\HG-DEMO_1.KAP... return code 2
No change using bsbfix.

The chart opens fine in Polar View and in FugawiBSBviewer

Ciao, Marco.

Marco,
Did you check the log for other hydrographica or other commercial TransMerc charts also?

KapGen tool

Hello.

For Quilting fans, here attached is a new batch script (windows only...) to convert all Transverse Mercator New Zealand Charts to Mercator.

First install NOAA chart Reprojector from Coastal Remote Sensing (CRS) Program - Digital NOAA Nautical Chart Reprojector

Then extract the content from the attached zip keeping folder structure and place the extracted folder TMercToMerc inside KapGen folder (at the same level of BSB, Img, etc.).

Enter inside TMercToMerc and double click on the ConvertAllToMercator.cmd

After half an hour enjoy all NZ charts that was inside BSB folder and that was in TRANSVERSE MERCATOR reprojected to MERCATOR.

Yes, Quilting works.

Precision seems acceptable (not for navigation!)

Just an alpha script. Just to have fun. Just waiting for a new OCPN version working with TMerc quilting...

Marco.

I'm pretty sure I've run it successfully in the past in Linux using Wine. Same should work on Macs(?).

perhaps it is worth noting that the NOAA chart reprojector doesn't change the .hdr body, it adds a bit of a preamble with the reprojection info. So your KAP reading navigation software has to be smart enough to read that. (is that BSB ver3.0?)
AFAIR, GDAL for instance ignores those header comments.

thanks Marco from somewhere in NZ6812!

Hamish, I did not get the point. The NOAA chart reprojector seems to do the right job: totally reproject the chart (pixel by pixel) and put the right Mercator header in the KAP file (I've seen that for other projections this is much different).

NOAA chart reprojector does not handle .hdr at all. Can you explain better if you have found an issue or a problem?

My best wishes for your holiday....

Ciao, Marco.

no problems (not much testing either), just what I remember when I was trying to use it to create an example of what the other supported projections were. Have a look at the first few lines of a reprojected .KAP file to see what I mean. (I was starting with a PR=MERCATOR and trying to get polyconics and tmercs, not the other way around like you're going)

maybe wrong to ask this here but....
When using NOAA charts they all show pill shaped boxes with a U in them scattered all over. How can I get rid of these? And what are they? See attachment.

Thanks

turn off the meta objects setting in the tools/vector charts tab. also, I found it interesting to play around and experiment with different settings in mariners standard, unchecking boxes, using other, declutter text, show only important text, etc. customize it to what's important.

the standard to which the bathymetric soundings were collected are "U"nknown.
(IIRC the others are like Level I,II,III,IV, etc)

Download the iso file
Unpack the ISO
You then have 3 folders with the:
CM93 area 1-2 (europe)
CM93 area 3-5-6-7 (rest of world)
CM93 area 8 (usa)
You can merge these folders with the copy command under Vista into a new CM93-2009 folder (ignore duplicate files).
You then have the best current complete worldwide CM93 set

Good luck
Thanks for that.... works a treat.

I see CNF.Seasoft (http://cnf.at.tut.by) has an updated Jan 2010 CM93 Ed 2 mapset. It's already in a one world-wide file.
