Is it possible to change the background colour of cm93 charts from light blue to white in Open CPN, thanks (daylight issue)

Re: Change background colour

Yes,
you can customize the color palettes in the rasterization rules file (S52RAZDS.RLE in s57data subfolder of your opencpn installation) I've written a tool to make it reasonably easy, which you can find at OpenCPN - Rasterization Rules Editor - Redmine
Be aware, that the rules get rewritten every time you reinstall OpenCPN, so keep backup of your change or do the modification on every new version you install (actually preferred as there might be other updates to this file)

Re: Change background colour

I use CR-Hexact to hack the S52RAZDS.RLE file.
Redirect by ulimit.com

You can define white deep water by setting DEPDW to
DEPDW 0.3100 0.3200 99
See snapshot

You may want to have a look at the SHOM (French Hydro service) file at
Vector Palette | Official OpenCPN Homepage

As Pavel has pointed out, these hacks have to be done every time you download a new beta/stable OpenCpn version as they may be other significant changes in that file

Other changes include
LANDA 0.3500 0.3600 80 (rosy land area)
NODTA 0.2800 0.3100 75 (grayish no data or poorly surveyed zone)
LANDF 0.4000 0.4000 65 (yellow- brownish smaller built-up areas)
CHBRN 0.3500 0.3600 57 (brownish large build-up areas)

Re: Change background colour

Tried to change the palette for cm93 charts in version 3.1.814 but nothing happens, tried rebuilding the charts.. Nothing... Any ideas?
I have altered all tags "LANDA" to the code for Yellow, but nothing...

That is an old thread describing legacy stuff.

Re: Change Background Colour

Frode, this is a bit confusing now because the start of this thread refers to the way it was done in earlier releases, not how it is done in 3.1.

Now I am thinking you probable have the new process (using chartsymbols.xml) under control, given that you're an experienced user. So could it be that you have several installations and you are editing the wrong file?

(You can check your logfile to see which file O is actually loading)

Re: Change Background Colour

Yes I found it after opening a few of the other files in the folder.
Is the S52RAZDS.RLE file totally redundant now?

That style was a bit awkward for me, i'm more used to the pale yellow land color.

No, you can still force O to use it if you want, by specifying a switch in the .ini file. (The syntax is in one of the beta threads before just before the 3.0 release, can't remember exactly which one right now)

Here is my tweaked chartsymbol file (remove the .doc extension) that is meant to emulate the French Hydro (SHOM) charts

Re: Change Background Colour

I have made a new vector palette for dusk and night based on the old Tsunamis99 colors. I find the standard palette for dusk and night very hard to read on my monitor with very little contrasts. I you care to test it you can be downloaded from here;

Re: Change Background Colour

Hello Norhav,

its been 10 years since your post, so it is not surprising that your file is not to be found.
Maybe you can share it again?
I am also in need of a high contrast file.
Thanks!
